Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Orange brown pour with a red tint and a light tan had. Intense citrus flavor - orange, pineapple and peach. This stuff does not smell like beer. It literally smells like juice with perhaps some malt mixed in. The flavor is similar. Intense citrus fruit with very little sweetness. Interesting.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Great dark hazy amber color with a light brown head that holds and laces very nicely. Nice hoppy aroma (mostly grapefruit citrus) with a bit of an acidic after aroma - not getting much of the caramel malt on the aroma. The flavor is also pleasantly hoppy, though more resinous and piney than grapefruity/citrusy. The malt bill shows itself more in the flavor than in the aroma, though it is still hop dominated. Slight acidic flavor coupled with dry resinous hop bitterness. Smooth medium body on the palate, alcohol hidden well, sift pleasant carbonation. Overall: great, I would love to try this on tap at the source to taste it in its freshest state. I would like to see a bit more of the malt come out on the flavor too. Not at all what I expected but good. If you like hops you will enjoy this.

12oz bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Hazy reddish brown body topped by a diminishing small off-white had. Big nose full of Amarillo hops, lemon, grapefruit. Flavor is lightly spicy balanced by a big citrusy hop flavor. Medium body, lasting bitter finish. I really love Amarillo hops so this was quite a treat.

On tap @ Binny’s South Loop. Cloudy light brown color, red hues, big creamy tan head. Floral and hoppy aroma. Well balanced smooth taste. Creamy head gives way to a nice maltiness and finishes with a bitter tasty hop bite. A bit sweet and now the caramel comes out the second time around. Flavors don’t linger enough. Overall solid but not great.

A beautiful off-white head rests gracefully atop a very deep crimson red/rust orange body, with a persistent ruby reflective shine. The aroma is pleasant, at first bringing sharp citrussy hops, vanilla, and muscat grapes. This is followed with fruity malt and a sting of spice, leaving the beer smelling wonderfully balanced and sweet. The taste is immediately oaky, pungent and very full of hop bitterness. The rye appears late in the taste, bringing a grainy, spicy, puckering mouthfeel in a big bright finish. The palate is crisp, smooth, and energetic. Caraway seed, raisins, liquorice and angelica root are present, and all of this is balanced very well with the juicy, lemony, and stringent amarillo hops. This beer is highly drinkable and extremely enjoyable; the drying finish leaves you thirsting for more. Nicely crafted.

Cloudy red color with a thin white head that stayed around for a while. Aroma and taste are very hoppy with a dry finish. Not my favorite but if you like it I also recommend McSorley’s Ale.

Pours a slightly hazy dark copper/amberwith a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet cedar. Mouthfeel is full and a bit creamy. Flavor is dry & bitter forward with earthy balance rather than fruit and sweet. The sweetness in the aroma is burnt brown sugar and much quieter in the flavor than expected but not missed. Bitter forward and finish is omnipresent because of the rye but not overpowering. Very unique and delicious. I wish it didn’t cost more then $10 / six.

12 oz. Hoppy and caramel laced aroma. Definite grainy, rye, and toasty cereal. Quite hoppy, with a long finish. Slightly tannic but well rounded. Nice beer.
