SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Apr 23, 2008 This poured dark amber/copper with a thin white head that disippated quickly. The nose shows off caramel malt along with soft rye and a citric/floral edge from the hops. Rather light in the mouth with a tartness running through the midpalate and finish which shows the hops with a dry/bitter edge. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Apr 22, 2008 Pours a translucent, nearly opaque, cloudy, ruby red with a thin slightly off white head. Aroma is very spicy, malty, grainy and slightly citrus with a sort of sweet and sour thing going on. Flavor is very grainy and chewy, with some mild sweetness, plenty of spice, some citrus. Heavy mouthfeel but smooth and crisp on the palate. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2008 This is one sexy looking beer. Deep ruby pour, fragrant citrus and floral aroma with a finish that is like a bitter lick of a ruby red grapefruit rind. BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2008 Hoppy nose. This was not a balanced beer. Low carbonation reminded me of an English bitter. Extremely well hopped, very bitter tail end. Not my favorite. On tap at La Cav. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Apr 19, 2008 Short 12oz twist-off bottle. Reddish-copper color. Aroma of PNW citrus hops. Flavor is a highly bitter hop. Crisp, clean, pleasant. Nice rye malt flavors. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Apr 17, 2008 This is a great IPA with a rye foundation. Floral, citrus hops all over the mouth. Dry rye comes in at the back and matches the hops. I almost want to complain that the rye covers up some of the hop flavor, but that’s what a true IPA would be for. This isn’t that beer, and it’s not supposed to be. Probably one of the best uses of rye I’ve found. I want some more bitterness in there, but am somewhat curious if it’s not there, but covered up by the rye. The nice caramel malt of a red ale is there, but gets forgotten amongst everything else. Nice flavors, nice range of flavors, nice craftsmanship. Nice beer.
BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Apr 16, 2008 wow, a beautifully hopped red ale. piney and floral with moderate citrus enumerations this beer is a hop lovers whore. sweet, beautiful and there whenever you need it. dry and refreshing as it helps you see the light. fruit and clean of finish (when it goddamm feels like finshing). just a touch sweet and malty. gotta try it , cause it has a great malt ecoutrament. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Apr 16, 2008 This reminds me a lot of Surlyfest, because of the rye aspect. Very flowery hop aroma, with a decent hop burn. The rye really adds character to the brew, gives it some good body. I didnt realize this was going to be like a Rye IPA, works well for sure.
