fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Mar 21, 2008 Bottle pours a dark red with a nice head. Smells of pine and forests come up from the glass. Tastes like I’m drinking an IPA or IIPA. Very tasty. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Mar 19, 2008 Updated: Apr 20, 2008Bottle pours amber to garnet with a smallish head, but there is lace and a fancy surface haze island. The aroma is fresh grapefruit, pine, and malt in there somewhere. The flavor is pretty complex and transforming. There is an initial dry malt show followed by a full frontal hop assault accompanied by a rye malt foundation. There is a satisfying underlying sweetness throughout. The palate is lively and crisp. Overall, I could drink a bunch this. We really need to get this brewer to distribute in Minnesota. I guess I can just keep driving to Sconnie. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Mar 16, 2008 Pours deep amber with a thick tan head. Big hop aroma of sweet malts\ and pine, very similar to a double IPA. Rye imparts a nice spicyness to the flavor. Bif bitter finish. Very nice beer Unique69crazy (119), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 16, 2008 As you can imagine, it is a red beer. Yeasty smell and taste at first followed by hints of raspberry throughout the finishing. The bittering hops used gives it a delicate tart taste. Has a nice smooth pour with little to no head. I wish I could find it on sell here around my home xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Mar 13, 2008 Bottle as gift from GF, she has actually bought me the bottles for the last two remaining styles I had yet to drink. Darker brown, almost hazy with small to medium beige head. Light grapefruit and pine hop aroma dominates with some caramel malt presence. Very nice pine hop flavor mixes well with a sort of earthy rye malt, caramel, medium sweet front that dries out pretty quickly, pretty floral as well. Medium creamy body. A nice earthy and hoppy rye from Founders, they do not dissapoint. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Mar 4, 2008 Pours a slightly hazed amber topped by a smallish beige head, no lacing. Aroma is smack you in the face pine, pineapple, caramel and light rye. Flavor is moderately sweet but has a nice bitterness to counteract. Mostly pineapple, grapefruit, caramel, some rye and light lemon. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium carbonation. merlin48 (509), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Feb 28, 2008 I love rye beers and this one is a longterm favorite. 12 loz bottle pours a hazed copper body with an attractive beige head that laces quite well. Bold aroma of florals, pine, and fresh orange. Creamy medium body with an ideal level of carbonation. Taste is complex. Plenty of hop bitterness with an assertive toffee maltiness to balance. Spicy and earthy rye adds a distinct element that really sets this one apart. Floral, pine, and citrus hops notes throughout. Exceptional ale! IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Feb 23, 2008 Aroma of caramel, toffee, and a lot of grain. Smelled like a Scottish ale. Taste had a bit more hop character and a little spice character. Smooth finish. I liked the balance this one had to offer. Would probably buy again.
