mikeben (344), Naperville, Illinois, USA Jun 13, 2007 I just don’t like overly hoppy beers. It tasted like grapefruit juice to me. I liked it’s coloring but not much else. Sorry to go against the grain. Certainly better then an Bud or a Miller though. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA Jun 9, 2007 Updated: Jul 27, 2007surprised by this one last night too. i need to start trusting founders a lot more with there beer. the hops might overpower the caramel, but its a good thing. taste stays and stays. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jun 8, 2007 A deep amber pour with a large off white head that breaks down pretty quickly. An aroma that says hops clearly with a hint of spices. A flavor that rolls with a hop bitter from the start with just a tad of malty sweetness sliding in as well. A very nice hoppy bitter finsih that really sets this beer off. A palate that is smooth and soft but not fizzy. Overall a very good beer. RCL (1444), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Jun 7, 2007 It has a nice blend of spice from the hops and tangy-ness from the rye. Sweet, but well balanced. TheShat really nailed the tea character in this beer. Good Stuff. TheShat (131), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Jun 4, 2007 Bottle pours a beautiful copper color with a good head. Aroma is sweet and malty. The flavor is of sweet malt with a touch of rye flavor. This beer almost has a tea like quality. Very tasty! The finish is smooth and refreshing with a touch of rye bitterness. A winner! MrChris (110), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jun 3, 2007 Malted caramel aroma. Nothing more. Red-brown color with a frothy tan head. Lots of floaters in the glass. Not used to that in a Founder’s brew. Nice crisp, frothiness on the tongue. Very full hoopy bitter taste here. This could be an IPA. Pleasant bitter ending make this a very drinkable beer, One with lots of character jspruit (111), Dublin, Ireland Jun 2, 2007 Drank right at Founders brewery on a beautiful sunny day. The pour on this is great with compact head on top of an amazing ruby red body-I dont think that I have seen many beers like this. Nice hoppy smell but not too overpowering with a bit of fruitiness maybe too. There isnt too much hoppiness in the taste but more of a malty taste, but all very clean and smooth. Unfortunately I cant comment too much more on this beer as I dont drink alot of rye beers so there may or may not be some of that in there too. I did enjoy this beer though and I will definitely have it again. shrubber85 (2836), Wallhalben, Germany Jun 1, 2007 Bottle. Rye and pine hops aroma. Cloudy reddish amber color with an insanely big blonde head that has staying power. Very strong rye flavor with a citrusy hops mixed in. Nice blending - the hops and rye mingle nicely.
