Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Rated 12/31/06: Hopped like an APA with an incredible dryness, one fine brew. Hoppy aroma half pine, half grapefruit and citrus. Nice amber pour huge off white head that stays around 1/2" in thickness, lots of web-like lacing. Dry finish, very full and satisfying on the palate. Good all around flavor lots of malts, the strength of the hops seems to mask the flavor of the rye at first but eventually the rye is detected. Real good malt presence, great beer.

Bottle sampled at Capones, pour red/amber with a decent size light tan head. Aroma of citrus, caramel malts, hops, and rye. The flavor is smooth, caramel, slight sweetness, nice hoppy kick, and rye. Good brew.

Yum! 12oz bottle from EithCubes - thanks! I’ve not been too into reds lately, but this one’s got a lovely bitterness without sacrificing the malty goodness. Big floral hops suggest a pale initial, but there’s some fine dry malting to give it a rich feel that balances out the citrus and gives the body some heft. Very nice.

pours hazy red with one inch off-white head. aroma starts very hoppy (mostly berries, citrus, and passionfruit) and some dry sweet malt but not biscuit. taste is a significant citrus and berry hop with a good crystal and rye malt support. the rye compliments the bitterness beautifully. definitely an awesome rye beer.

Thanks to Ron, on tap at Vintage Estates. Nice darkish tan head, creamy and attractive. Orangish and clear color penetrates thru this brew, darker than pale yellow. Small amount of hoppy aroma, but not over powering. The first taste comes off instant hops then it goes to fruity and friendly. After a few more sips I get some back of throat mild hop awareness. Pretty mannerly. Not quite as hoppy as pale ales, but does have a hop kick. I usually can’t appreciate hopped brews but this is almost accepatable. The finish is a culmination of medium hop bitterness and fades to a well behaved welcomed ending.

12 oz bottle. Poured a brownish red with a fizzy average siz white head, almost a five for appearance but the head was a little to fizzy. Aroma on this is awesome with nice notes of malt hops and rye. Flavor is solid with an initial malty flavor followed by a slight bite, maybe the rye, then some good hop bitterness. This is a good beer wish it was available in my area.

Cloudy orange-copper body topped by an initially large beige head leaving lots of lacings. Aroma is a fruity hop-soup. Intense. Full and slightly oily body with tasty rye malts. Copiously hopped with a resulting complex hop taste. Far from the uni-dimensional pine-tree or citrus hop profile. The end result is hard-hitting, harsh, fruity but dry. Dry berries and shredded hop-cones. Harsh assertive bitterness. I don’t care about the Speciality Grain style on ratebeer. This is an IPA to me. And it may very well be my favourite non-imperial (<7%) hop-fix. Hence the ridiculously high rating. Draft in Boston it was unreal. Bottle is still great. I’m a huge fan of a generous c-hopping of a solid rye-based body (Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye Ale is another example). But honestly I can’t express the taste and/or I can’t relate it to known flavours. I just don’t have the words to describe it. Well, I have the words but they are woooa, hmmmm, hhhhaaaaaaa but I don’t think these are very useful in a rating.

Deep hazy crimson coloured body with a very thick tannish red head with specks of brown in it. Very crazy coloured beer, but very very nice. Aroma of rye (of course) , hops, curacao, malt, and some sugars. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rye flavour in the taste up front fading to a smooth maltiness and a potent hoppiness. Aftertaste shows some alcohol, malt, curacao and of course - more rye. Overall, a very nice beer - looks amazing and tastes damn good too. Definitely worth trying if you can find this! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-May-2007.
