DirtyMartini (194), Los Angeles, Alabama, USA Apr 7, 2007 solid offering. wasnt sure what to expect after having numerous rye beers but no single one being like the other. pours a hazy dark red with a small tan head that goes away rather quickly. aroma is definitely of floral hops...smells like an IPA. flavor is up sweet at first taste, but grows increasingly bitter as it lingers in your mouth. nicely malted with a hop character that i would describe as floral and woodsy. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 7, 2007 Pours a hazy dark red with a nice tan head. Rye is detectable in the aroma, which is dominated by hops IMO. Not too sweet, but definitely malted well, with a bitter hop finish. Not bad! Duster72 (117), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Apr 3, 2007 Pours a deep ruby with lots of sediment from 12oz bottle into tulip glass. Huge tan head with brown speckles takes several minutes to subside. Looks like the top of a root beer float. Head leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet rye. Taste is rye with sweet citrus hops and carmel malts. HInt of bitter at the end. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Very drinkable. Will buy more of these next time. Excellent beer! k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 1, 2007 Bottle - ruby/brownish pour with a fluffy tan head. Unusual charcoal/burnt malt aroma not matching previous descriptions. Flavor was initially sweet and malty followed by a generous hoppy floral note that finishes spicy and clean/dry. Single bottle example and the aroma might very well be unique to this example. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA Mar 31, 2007 3/31/07 On tap. Red-brown body with a small, creamy tan head. Fresh fir tree aroma. X-L hop flavor, accompanied with some sweet caramel malts. Bitter finish. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 30, 2007 12 oz bottle. poured a hazy reddish-orange color. Head was bubbly and off white/orange with good retention and lacing. Malty aroma with molasses and toasted bread. There was also a bit of dried fruit. Dry on the tongue with a bit too much carbonation. Well balanced flowery hop and toasted bread malt flavors. Good, not great. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Mar 25, 2007 Pours a dark ruby bronze, tan bubbles that leave a generous amount of lacing on the glass, pine and citrus aromas with garden flowers, fragrances of rye and wheat bread, faint sweet on the nose, reminds me of the Black Rye, faint caramel, taste is about the same as the aromas, there is a nice hop bite, citrus tang and flavor on the tongue, I found the caramel more prominent in taste then aroma, sweet malt taste expands as it warms and it is balanced by hop bitterness, I was surprised at the amount of hops in this beer, medium dry on the palate, a really nice drink. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Mar 24, 2007 Bottle. Clear copper color with a thin white head. Aroma is a nice balanced hop and malt mix, with the hop aroma being floral and not overpowering. Creamy, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Biscuity malt start with a moderate hop finish. Very enjoyable to drink, I really like beers that incorporate rye.
