WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Mar 15, 2007 12 oz bottle via trade with Moejuck, I think its been a while. I’ve been looking forward to this since I had Black Rye a while back. Pours a deep amaber with a nice thick tan head. The nose is quite malty with a strong vibe. The taste is malty and hoppy with a spicy edge, that could be the rye. This is tasty, another gem from Founders, I love their beer. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA Mar 3, 2007 12oz. Bottle
Red’s Rye poured a hazy red/amber. With a big 2 finger rocky off-white head. The head sticks around on this beer throughout the glass. Leaves sticky lacing the whole way through.
Smells of grapefruit hops and rye bread with a little sweet malt. The smell is great on this beer. It makes my mouth water.
The taste is very good. Grapefruit up front followed by a touch of rye. Ends with a lingering bitterness that makes you want another drink. Very good flavor.
Mouthfeel is good as well. A little thicker, coats the mouth. A nice carbonation.
I could drink a whole lot of these. Founders did a great job. Every drink keeps me wanting another.
masonjer (558), Holt, Michigan, USA Mar 2, 2007 Pours a dark orangy brown. Has a half inch off white head that dimishes quickly. Aroma is of fresh grapefruit, citrust and hops. Taste is grapefruit and fruit cup upront, with rye throughout, that fades into lingering hops. All balanced by a distant caramel malt backbone. A very refreshing and balanced beer. jonwayne4883 (401), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Feb 28, 2007 a hint of caramel in the taste with some hops.
