winegarner (220), san diego, California, USA Dec 20, 2006 Poured a clear deep orangish red with a rocky lasting off white head. Aroma has lightle caramelized malts with citrus and floral hops. Flavor has a spicy maltiness combined with citrus hops. Medium bodied with a moderate to high bitterness. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Dec 19, 2006 Bottle: Pours a dark ruby red with an off-white creamy head. Nose is nice and floral with sweetness and hops along with lots of earthy nice rye and caramel. Very rich and pronounced. The flavor doesn’t quite have the kick you’re expecting, but the abv is such that that’s the way it is. Such hopping levels can usually only be extracted with a higher abv beer. Very nice! Finishes dry and planty with an earthy tail. Very pleasant tasting strong ale with a nice balance of hops and malts. DeuceDeuceOU (51), Athens/Cleveland, Ohio, USA Dec 15, 2006 It smells like tea with some citrussy hoppiness to it. Obviously a deep reddish color.. Very opaque and cloudy with not much off-white head. A very strong grapefruit taste to the end, plenty of bitterness and a bit of spice. Always pleased with Founders. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Dec 8, 2006 Bottle. Pours a cloudy rusty brown color with a huge off white foamy head that hangs around. Aroma is hops, floral , grapefruit. Taste is spicy from the rye I suppose, grapefruit, piney. Palate is medium bodies with big carbonation, and a spicy lingering finish, slight alcohol warming effect! Excellent. drywallman (227), Lake in the Hills, Illinois, USA Dec 7, 2006 The beige head is nice, and surprisingly long lasting. The floral hops and rye are evident. This still had a good malt body. I’d recommend it. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Dec 4, 2006 Deep amber in color with a large off-white head. aroma is of spicy hops. Flavor is of spicy rye, malt, roasted and toasted malt. Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Dec 4, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Tpaliga. Poured a cloudy deep brown color ale with a huge slightly off-0white foamy head with good retention. Aroma of bitter hops is quite overpowering with some malt being noticeable. Taste is a mix between some caramel malt with some overpowering bitter and citrus hops. Rye is present though not overly noticeable. Body is above average with some low filtration, which is appreciated. While I did appreciated this beer I would have prefer less hops and a bit more rye. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Dec 3, 2006 Aroma’s of rye and citrusy hops.Pours a dark red with a medium head.Rye and hops stand out in the flavor.Mouthfeel is medium to full with a slight bitter hop finish.
