frankenkitty (1873), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Feb 10, 2006 Ah... it appears my nemesis RAYBOY01 has been the last to sample this beer. This gentleman has repeatedly thrown down the gauntlet to race me to 1000 ratings... then recants as if he simply dropped the glove. I think he is attempting to thwart my perseverance through sheer confusion, but he does not realize that  I am a juggernaut, out of control!!!!
Ahem. Yes, well... this beer pours a dark copper with a sediment haze topped with a creamy, cream-colored head. Big, harsh & almighty citrus in the aroma with juicy grapefruit. The alcohol that arrives later is strong and reminds me of my childhood and my mother trying to get my fever down through alcohol sponge baths. Bitter hops are predominant in the flavor with abundant citrus, while malts do not add sweetness as much as add depth. It may be the power of suggestion, but I could swear I also detect caraway. Hopheads rejoice, you’re really going to like this one.

Block (318), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA Jul 2, 2009 Red pour with a white head. Aroma is dominated by hops and some darker caramel malts. Flavor is really well balanced between the malt and hops. Lots of hops flavor with a moderately bitter finish. guzzler67 (1240), Hanover, Maryland, USA Jul 2, 2009 Hazed, reddish amber appearance with a large beige head and very good lacing. Early on, the aroma is grainy, moderately sweet malts, but wait a whiff and you run into flowery and resinous hops. Flavors also bounce back and forth, with the earthy rye in sync with the spicy, citrusy hops. Spicy hops dominate the lingering finish as well. Just wish I had easy access to this brewer in general and this beer specifically. bluemooner (210), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jun 30, 2009 Pours a cloudy, dark amber with a thin, off-white head. Piney hops and sweet malts in the aroma. Tastes of piney and citrus hops, caramel, toast, cereal, sweet malts, with a bit of earthiness and hop bitterness in the finish. A rather unique brew and was definetely a treat for me. Tweety (309), Vancouver, Washington, USA Jun 27, 2009 I’ve been gravitating to the RyePAs lately, and this is just another one, I’ve drank a lot of this beer recently, and for my money it’s one of the better values out there. slitcher (47), Freeport, Illinois, USA Jun 25, 2009 Pours a dark amber. Piney resin and hops on the nose. Flavor of pinecone and hops. This beer is INCREDIBLE! The hops and rye create one of the most pleasanlty bitter beers I have ever had. A new favorite! TwoDudes (68), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jun 24, 2009 I love this beer...My favorite Founders beer...spice of the rye works very well with the citrusy hops.......................................................................................................................... Elwood (268), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Jun 22, 2009 Draft. Pours a hazy amber with a creamy, light tan head. Pine, resin, and malt sweetness in a strangely familiar nose. Medium carbonation with a medium-light, dry mouthfeel. Hops dominate the palate on this one. Big pine notes, a little sweetness from the malt, and then more bitterness poured on top. A lingering, bitter finish. Rye and lots of hops says it all. Good, but I am not sure I would want to session this one. beerater (14), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2009 This is a very unique and drinkable with lots of character in its aroma and flavor. If you like hoppy beers, you are going to love this. Had this at my favorite Thai restaurant and it went with the spicy food and the sushi appetizers perfectly.
