Commercial Description:
As promised Founders Brewing Company has created something unlike the rest. Amongst this summers over crowded race to cloudy wheat beers we have decided to embark down a path all to our own. By using only fresh raspberries Rubaeus translates into intense flavors combined with a no hesitation malt bill. At 7% ABV this is definitely beer. In fermentation we add fresh raspberries at five separate stages throughout the fermentation life cycle to achieve the ultimate balance between tartness and sweetness. This beer is a tribute to Founders way of brewing…. Brewing Beer We Want To Drink

courtesy of goryshkewych Pours pink with thin white head. Aroma is superbly fruity with raspberries with hints of malt. Flavor, raspberry directly followed by some caramel notes that at times might overtake some of the fruit aspect. More so than it did in the aroma. Refreshing with a light bitter fruity finish.

Pours a very dark ruby red color with dark cherry red hues when held to a light source and a 2 finger foamy off-white head with a slightly pink tinge. Decent retention, slowly fading into a lasting ring with minimal lacing. Aroma is dominated by raspberries with a bit of an artificial syrupy presence as well as a tart funky note. Sour and tart but not too puckering that nicely balance out the sweetness of the raspberries and syrupy fruit flavor. This sweetness is still the dominant flavor but without the slight tart feel it would be a bit overbearing.

1/2 a shared 12oz. bottle. Appears hazy, pale reddish orange with some sediment. Nose is dry perfume, juicy raspberries. Taste is sour raspberry, reminiscent of framboise, light moutfeel and lacking depth and complexion. Alcohol is non-existent for 7%! Very tasty and refreshing on a hot summer day.

A really nice rasperry color andflavor without being to sweet/syrupy. The is a great summer or "gateway" beer. It has a bit of an orange-rine bitterness at the end. Overall a very enjoyable fruit beer.

Source: 12 oz bottle purchased at Friar Tuck’s in Peoria.
Glass: Poured into a North Coast stemmed glass.
Appearance: Poured a cloudy red/brown color with a one finger pinkish head.
Aroma: Raspberries mainly, but other berry fruits are present.
Flavor: Raspberry dominant...not much else to say.
Palate: Medium body with softer carbonation and a slick/creamy mouthfeel.
Overall: Not a fan of fruit beers normally, but this one was above average.

Not a hugely pretty brown colour but its dainty pink head pulls it back. A raspberry ripple ice cream aroma. Very sweet and creamy. A grand fresh fruity flavour not too sweet or too sour (which is how I like it) but a good balance. A nice little number that remains surprisingly drinkable.

Bottle. Aroma of tart, mildly acidic raspberries, maybe blended with some other fruity/fruit juicy notes, strawberry in particular. Flavor the same, quite juicelike, but tart enough to keep it from being nothing but juice. Maybe a touch of graham cracker/light graininess in there as well. Not the most exciting beer ever to say the least, but not terrible either.
