COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As promised Founders Brewing Company has created something unlike the rest. Amongst this summers over crowded race to cloudy wheat beers we have decided to embark down a path all to our own. By using only fresh raspberries Rubaeus translates into intense flavors combined with a no hesitation malt bill. At 7% ABV this is definitely beer. In fermentation we add fresh raspberries at five separate stages throughout the fermentation life cycle to achieve the ultimate balance between tartness and sweetness. This beer is a tribute to Founders way of brewing…. Brewing Beer We Want To Drink

Bottle. Aroma is dominated by raspberries with a hint of tartness. Clear ruby red color with some light haziness, indicating the probable use of wheat in the grain bill. Nice balance between tart and sweetness. Medium light body...very nice finish, well balanced. Overall, this is a very fine fruit beer. Raspberries shine thru, it’s light and tart...good anytime drinking beer. Light enough for summer time, but clocking in at 7%, strong enough for any time of the year. Nice beer.

Bottle, courtesy of artusory. Pours a pinkish red with suspended particles and a thick, pink-tinted white head. Very fresh burst of raspberry in the nose. Flavor has notes of fresh raspberries along with a mix of white wine and champagne. Tart, moderately sweet, not syrupy. Finishes dry. Alcohol content well hidden. Medium light, spritzy/effervescent body. Very good.

Bottle thanks to artusory: Pours to a mostly clear ruby/amber with some pink highlights, along with a eggshell colored head with some light pink highlights. The aroma is fresh raspberries, sweet & tart raspberries, spicy hops, and light alcohol when swirled, though it does smell a bit sweet and inviting. The taste is much less sweet than I expected based upon the aroma. It start with lightly tart ripe raspberries, cherries, freshly picked raspberries, lightly sweet raspberries, and sweet light malts. Really highlights the raspberries both in the aroma and taste while being lightly tart and not going overboard on the flavors. Medium bodied, medium carbonated, finishes with lightly tart raspberries.

Thanks to Illinismitty for this. Huge fizzy (overcarbonated) pink head that lasts forever before slipping into the glass to form a bright, light cherry red colored body. Nice fresh raspberry aroma. Tart berry flavor delivered with a spritzy palate. I didnt care for this especially, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this beer if you like this style.

12 oz bottle. they didnt hold back on the carbonation on this baby. recently tried a bit of the dfh fort, and this has a very similar initial scent. smells like an over the top raspberry candy spritzer. taste is kind of sour at first (surprisingly) but leaves a not so pleasent raspberry tinge on the palate. i could see this working at a particular time on a particularly warm day, but right now I am not really feeling it however, for the style of fruit beers, it is one of the better ones i have tasted and my rating will reflect that.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2006 12 oz bottle

I had high expectations for this after seeing it as the store. As you’ll see, those weren’t exactly met. The burgandy colored liquid poured with a fizzy head not unlike Cherry 7UP. This quickly abated, leaving behind no trace other than some foam on the fringes of the glass. Hints of sour raspberries, vanilla and cherries greeted my nose - is this a beer or a fruit juice? The taste confirmed that it might be a beer, but only just - the faint trace of raspberries was intertwined with wheat and vanilla. There was a slight tartness that eventually evolved into what tasted like a carbonated version of Lipton’s raspberry iced tea. After that, everything faded leaving behind no trace. This wasn’t particularly bad and did have some interesting characteristics, but I will still seek out a New Glarus raspberry tart. At least with that the promised fruit comes though when you consume it.
