3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 kramer (3376) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 19, 2005
12 oz bottle via trade w/ ughsmash. Pours a reddish mahogany with a huge pink fluffy head. Aroma is all raspberry. I really can’t make anything else out because the aroma is so powerful. Flavor is acidic and bursting with tart raspberrys. The background could be more maltier to cut thru some of the fruit in my opinion. Medium bodied but the intense fizziness detracts from the mouthfeel. The first 6 ounces or so of this I really enjoyed, but as I got into the second half of the bottle, it became just too sweet to take. Get a bottle, but share with somebody.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 JakeFr5150 (23) - Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, USA - NOV 14, 2005
12oz Bottle: Sort of a weird brew if you ask me. Pours a deep almost purple color, unlike the pink of most raspberry beers. Head is nonexistent. Two bottles I tried to get to form head to no avail. Strong raspberry nose - almost like burying your face in a pie. Initial taste was very unexpected - extremely tart. Very robust raspberry flavor, rather than the faint hint you get from most. A little astringent in the mouth, probably the elevated alcohol content. Finishes smooth, slightly warming the throat. I can say that this was very refreshing, unlike most fruit beers. I was mainly impressed by the aroma. Can’t say I’d drink it all the time, but I may try it again next year if I see it.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 thedm (4118) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - NOV 14, 2005
This draft brew from the brewery poured a small sized head of white colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a poor lacing and a transparent light red colored softly carbonated body. The aroma was mildly raspberry and the mouth feel was very tingly from stat rt to finish. The flavor was overwhelmingly raspberry and very strong.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Boutip (3294) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 8, 2005
Bottle: Poured a dark pink color ale with a nice bubbly pink head with average retention. Aroma of pure raspberry is of pure enjoyment (I was a bit scare at first that this would be another chemically induced fruit beer). Taste is refreshing and raspberry totally dominate by bringing a balance between sweetness and tart. Alcohol is well hidden. Very well done for a style that comport to many misses.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 badgerben (4092) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - NOV 4, 2005
Red color with a medium head. Strong raspberry aroma. More of that good raspberry in the taste with a slightly bitter finish. Almost watery. This is a good, solid fruit beer. Not overly malty, not overly sweet.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 walleye (944) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - OCT 26, 2005
from the bottle. poured a cherry to raspberry, wit a big foamy pink head. aroma, raspberries, yeast, citrus, fruity. flavor, like a wine cooler, raspberries, tart with some sweetness ( like a sweet tart). would be a good summer beer.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 DarkElf (2938) - La Jolla, California, USA - OCT 19, 2005
(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with bkelley68, thanks Brian!) Wow, stop the presses, an American-made raspberry beer that is actually tart rather than sweet? Say it isn’t so! Mmm boy, this is some tasty stuff. Tart raspberry flavor is very authentic -- no fake-tasting, artificial garbage here -- and it totally dominates this fruit beer to the point where the base maltiness is barely noticeable and certainly not strong enough for me to pick out flavors. And of course, in the nose, raspberry takes no prisoners and does so with no apologies, but it doesn’t seem as tart as in the flavor. Body is fairly light, but the solid effervescence and tartness really keep the palate lively and completely refreshed. Dark ruddy amber in color, trending more toward a brick red color, and quite cloudy in apperance. The tall, effervescent head is off-white in color with an obvious pink tint. For such a bubbly head, I’m amazed by how persistent it is, never fading below a quarter inch. This really is a beer for people who love eating fresh raspberries. Very tart, very real, very flavorful and very enjoyable.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 hotstuff (3213) - Indiana, USA - OCT 16, 2005
Draft at FBC. Small off-white head that quickly dissipated, fine-small sized bubbles, virtually no lacing, softly carbonated, hazy, and a raspberry hue. Nose was sweet, raspberry and some tartness and mimicked in the flavor. Smooth palate. Light body.
