COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not another boring summer wheat beer or lemonade shandy—Rübæus is Founders’ way to celebrate the season’s warmest months. Optimizing the flavor of fresh raspberries added at multiple stages during fermentation, this stunning berry red masterpiece is the perfect balance of sweet and tart. No question about it, with a hefty malt bill and 5.7% ABV, this beer is 100% Founders.

Pours a nice ruby red. You can really sense the raspberries. Fermentation from the malts as well as the raspberries. A really good beer.

THOUGHTS: Not very beer like, but not like a fruity wine cooler either. It wasn’t overly sweet and was quite tart by the finish. It’s a man’s fruit drink. It was sort of like raspberry iced tea and raspberry lemonade mixed together. But not exactly. Hid alcohol well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark reddish orange with a average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was mostly raspberries, but not sweet. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, and sour; while the finish was lightly sweet, moderately acidic and more sour with an average duration. There was mostly raspberry. The medium body was dry with tingly carbonation and a dry and light to moderate astringent finish.

Bottle courtesy of yobdoog. Pours a hazy ruby color with one finger pinkish white head and decent lacing. Nose is raspberries, malt and a little sour funk. Taste is raspberry preserves up front with a malt background. Finish is semi-dry and a bit sour like unripe raspberries. Medium mouth feel. A nice, refreshing summer brew. Thanks Trevor!

Courtesy fantomas23. Pours a raspberry red color with a thin fizzy film on top. The nose is all fresh raspberries on this one. The flavor shows again fresh raspberries with a little malt sweetness on the backend. It was a little tart, but it tasted more like a raspberry soda. Medium bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel with a crisp finish. I was hoping for more from this one, but still it was nice to try.

4 oz. sample at Capone’s. Very nicely surprised by this one. I got it figuring my wife would like it more than I would. Wrong! Deep red in color, nice pinkish head. Lots of raspberry in the nose and all over the palate. A nice malty balance assures you it’s not just a fruity cop-out.

On tap at Capone’s, served in a trappist glass. Candy apple red liquid topped with pink foam. Smells of fresh raspberry juice and honey. Raspberries dominate the flavor but the sweetness level is fully kept in check. One of the first non-lambic fruit beers that I have had that I am not ashamed to say that I like.

Bottle purchased in Boston. Poured an orange-ruby with not much white head. Aroma is just alot of rasberry; a bit sweet. Finish was a bit crisp and tart. At first I didn’t like it too much, but warmed up to it a bit. However, it was always a bit one dimensional and didn’t do much to separate itself from others in the style. A bit medicinal. Expected a bit more, but maybe I was being unrealistic.

Color is a strange pink hue, with a white head that dissipates pretty quickly. The nose is an assault of raspberries. Finish is sweet, but no cloying. I was a little surprised by how thin and crisp the mouthfeel is. Very refreshing.

Chunky sedimented watermelon juice colored with pinkish white head. Aroma is a bit cloyingly raspberry, but perhaps that is the point. Taste is the same, very sweet, but with a weird dry biscuity edge, and a medicinal finish. $3/12 oz

Pours a dark pink with a white thin head. Smells like raspberries. Tastes like raspberries. Definantly a nontraditional brew, but is my main weapon in non-beer drinkers into the hobby. I could drink this all day.
