Not another boring summer wheat beer or lemonade shandy—Rübæus is Founders’ way to celebrate the season’s warmest months. Optimizing the flavor of fresh raspberries added at multiple stages during fermentation, this stunning berry red masterpiece is the perfect balance of sweet and tart. No question about it, with a hefty malt bill and 5.7% ABV, this beer is 100% Founders.

Bottle. Pours a deep red with purple overtones; the head is high and lacy, a gentle, pale pink. The nose is raspberry -- but not candy; this is the fruit, plain and simple, with no overtones of candy or fake nonsense. This is the raspberries that grew out behind the farmhouse I lived in in the mid-eighties; we are not fooling around here. The flavor is raspberries; pure, juicy, simple, with a touch of malty bitterness on the close. Freaking astonishing. The finish is brief and sweet -- kinda like raspberry season itself. I’m trying not to be poetic, but this beer is a perfect distillation of a fruit and a season. Bravo.

Bottle from Bert’s Pours a deep clear reddish purple color with a smallish pink/white head that dissipates almost instantly. Smells like raspberries. Sweet and tart raspberries is all I can find in the aroma really. Maybe a hint of bread if I think about it really hard. The flavor is sweet and tart raspberries with a hint of malt in there and a touch of earth. The mouthfeel is sticky and a bit syrupy, carbonation is low to moderate and the body is moderate. Wine cooler or beer? I enjoyed this a bit and I could drink it again, maybe not my favorite beer but certainly drinkable.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2015 More sweet than tart, but a pleasant beer to drink on a hot Kansas afternoon. Courtesy of Nick. Bright red coloration, very raspberry, but not cloying. Tried the nitro version at the Crescent Moon in NE in 2015.

Pint at Blue Monk on 7/7/13. Clear dark red to purple color with a thick pink head. Nose consists of raspberry, pale malt and slight hop. Sweet raspberry flavor followed by minimal grassy hops, then turning to pale malt before a slightly tart berry finish.

Aromas of raspberries, black berries, and bread dough. Dark, hazy ruby with a fully fading, white head. Fruity, with raspberry dominating the palate, and a dry tartness. Medium bodied with a crisp carbonation, and a full, fruity finish.

Immediate nose of raspberries. Followed by a tart raspberry surprise. Red brown color white foam. The second taste is lesser intense. The 5 people at the table were split on this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Draft at Capones, pours hazy ruby with white head and lacing. Notes of fake raspberry, cranberry, very sweet malt, tart fruit, cake batter. Finish is an overly malty and oatmeal like quality. Not a good beer, ill stick to the offering from New Glarus.

From a 12 oz into a snifter. Pours a beAutiful bright red with no lacing. Very raspberry aroma. Mouthfeel is light with little carbonation, almost slick. Taste is full up raspberries. Like a high class Raspberry four loko. But classy. No alcohol taste is present. It's full on Jesus Juice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
