COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As promised Founders Brewing Company has created something unlike the rest. Amongst this summers over crowded race to cloudy wheat beers we have decided to embark down a path all to our own. By using only fresh raspberries Rubaeus translates into intense flavors combined with a no hesitation malt bill. At 7% ABV this is definitely beer. In fermentation we add fresh raspberries at five separate stages throughout the fermentation life cycle to achieve the ultimate balance between tartness and sweetness. This beer is a tribute to Founders way of brewing…. Brewing Beer We Want To Drink

Brandywine apple in color--small off-white head...delicious pungent raspberry aroma...refreshing flavors jammed with raspberry...sweet in general, but not overwhelming...a little tart, again not overwhelming...a cereal flavor that reminds me of Kix...had this draft as well at AC beer fest...I loved it then , and love it now...one dimensional flavor, but who cares?...I’m a sucker for the raspberry

The pour is amber in color with a finger of white head. A very sweet fruit aroma to this, as expected. Lots of raspberry with maybe a touch of cherry to it as well. Not much else going on. The flavor is sweet with notes of sugar and raspberry. Maybe just a little bit of lemon in there, too.

Bottle. Pours ruby red with a thin white head. Aroma of fresh raspberries and a touch of wheat. Flavor was sweet and tart raspberries, light malts and a bit of caramel with a tasty and refreshing finish.

Big thanks to Tooch4321 for this one in trade. Pours a yellow-orange with pink highlights. Nose is smooth raspberries- puree, seeds, and a balance of the berry’s tartness and sweetness (I can go along with that). Flavor is similar- it is a raspberry beer, and it is not afraid of telling everyone this. Flavor is all aspect of the raspberry. Light to medium in body with a very raspberry finish.

Bottle shared by Tooch4321...thanks Adam! - Had this way back in the day at Three Floyds of all places, but that was long before I rated. This one pours clear ruby red with a thin white head. Pungent rotting raspberries (in the best possible way) on the nose, with chocolate--smells like it’s concentrated like a syrup you’d pour over ice cream. Taste is definitely faded, but the raspberry is lightly sweet and smooth. There’s a bit of light malt mingling with the raspberries on the finish. Thin-bodied but really nicely carbonated. Would have been better several years ago, but still a tasty beer.

Not sure of the age on this one but many thanks to Sixdaysbottomocean for hooking up a big want! Pour is kind of disappointing, in that the color is only slightly reddish in hue rather than what I was hoping for based on NG Raspberry Tart. Nose, on the other hand, is a nice little raspberry thing, very natural smelling which is a good sign. Light sweet raspberries, nicely balanced by moderate tartness for a fruit beer, definitely more tart than the New Glarus equivalent. For a fruit beer that has aged over a year, it’s got very good fresh flavors and is just a nice and satisfying beer. Finish is slightly strange, not sure how to describe it, but it knocks off a point here and there.

Bottle from Crown Liquors #6 (Aged 3 years) - Pours a dark rose amber with raspberry seed sediment and a wispy, white head. Aroma is bready with tart raspberry. Taste is tart raspberry and cranberry with a bready malt finish. Mouthfeel is light, wet, and soft. I’m surprised such a light beer held up so well after 3 years.

Weak bodied. Has the appearance and mouth feel of cranberry juice. Very juicy ale. Semi sweet. Rated 8/4/10

A- Perfectly transparent dark rose body that pours with thin 1/2 finger foamy white head. Head almost instantaneously fades to a collar which holds the whole way down. Little to no lacing is left behind in the glass. S- The nose is overpowered by a rush of tart raspberries. Sweet and sugary raspberries are present in the background. T- Dry raspberry upfront with a sweet bready malt backbone. The raspberry becomes quite tart for the finish and the subtle malt backbone disappears for a moment. What lingers is a nice combination of tart raspberry and sweet malt. P-Medium to high carbonation and light spritzy body-somewhat champagne like. O- This is a good fruit beer and is surprisingly similar to both Great Divide and Celis Raspberry. Good for one drink but not something I’d like to have more than one of. I might pick this up when I find it again (not available in my area). Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-16-2007 16:55:03

A: Pours a reddish pink with a small white head. No real retention or lace noted. S: Aromas of light raspberry, candy sugar, and pale malts. T: Raspberry for sure not sweet not tart, just somewhere in between. Light malts with hints of caramel sweetness. M: On the lighter side of body, peppy carbonation.

30th December 2008. Hazy red beer. No real head. Crisp and semi dry palate. Very nicely judged raspberries which are not too sweet or acidic but are spot on. No bitterness. Tasty and refreshing.
