Not another boring summer wheat beer or lemonade shandy—Rübæus is Founders’ way to celebrate the season’s warmest months. Optimizing the flavor of fresh raspberries added at multiple stages during fermentation, this stunning berry red masterpiece is the perfect balance of sweet and tart. No question about it, with a hefty malt bill and 5.7% ABV, this beer is 100% Founders.

Bottle from Sam’s. Pours bright red, though with a brownish tint to it. Small light pink head. Nose is big raspberry but also some peach, strawberry, and honey. A bit one-dimensional. Slight tartness. Good raspberry flavor but a bit generic and simple.

Dang, I didn’t rate the Rubes yet? The Rubes, from 12oz bottle, is medium reddish, not entirely clear, with a small head. The aroma is big raspberry without much else, but it’s really good. The flavor is a blast of raspberry, like Lindemans Framboise, but better and less sweet. Great sharp palate with a bite of tartness and good carbonation. Very good fruit beer but not quite at the level of the New Glarus masterpieces.

12 ounce bottle. Slightly hazy reddish brown color with a small bubbly tan head. Fragrant red berry nose. Sweet raspberry flavor upfront. Slightly tart with a nice caramel malt undertone. Refreshing to taste without being too sweet. Finishes slightly tart and dry.

Backlog rating. 12oz bottle from Utobeer, London. It pours a clean ruby orange/color with a small pink-ish head. Aroma is swet and syrupy with notes of raspberry jam and sugar. Taste is lightly grainy and sweet/sugary again, with loads of raspberry jam, syrupy sweetness. Light bodied with good carbonation. Overall, not convinced by this one, too sweet for me

Red brown pour some good foam head. Aroma seedy raspberries. Tastes big raspberries. A bit too sweet, could use more tart - should’ve gone sour with this.

355ml bottle. BB 04/2015. Pours a mid rosé colour. Creamy pink head, good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of raspberry syrup, artificial sweetener and some grain. Initial taste is quite sweet but not in an overpowering way and then some dry tartness. Medium almost winelike body, effervescent, sticky lingering mouthfeel. Gentle alcohol warmth. A pleasantly interesting beer.

355ml bottle. Cloudy copper colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Raspberry aroma, raspberry taste. Superbly balance of sweet- and tartness, some slightly biting bitter hop seconds as counterweight to the sweetness as well. If you like raspberry you won’t find any carved out better than this.
