Founders most complex, most innovative, most feared and yet most revered ale produced. Massive in complexity the huge malt character balances the insane amount of alpha’s used to create this monster. More IBU’s than any brewery has documented, more than you would believe and dry-hopped for twenty-six days straight with a combination of 10 hop varieties. Dangerously drinkable and deliciously evil. We dare you to dance with the Devil. 112 IBUs

2014/09/15 - Pours a translucent dark amber colour with a creamy, beige head that lingers and leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is huge toffee/sugary malt, caramel, pine, citrus, mild roast, wood and a hint of alcohol. Taste follows nose; sweet toffee and caramel up front, with a citrus and pine base and a woody, mildly boozy, roasted finish that is both bitter and sweet. Mouthfeel is oily with average carbonation and a drying, slightly warming finish. Very enjoyable. Love the balance between sweet, roasted and bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle pours a reddy brown color with a little head. Huge maltiness and full flavored hops to balance.

Pours a dark burnt orange. Aroma of citrus, pine. Flavor of caramel, citrus, raisin, pine, spruce. Has nice flavor, but just too intense to enjoy fully.

12oz bottle dated 6/30/14, poured into a tulip glass..copper colored pour with a thin white head..huge,bitter alcohol aroma along with pine,resin..boozy,bitter,hoppy,caramel taste..little too much of alcohol taste..a big beer..definitely a sipper.

Bottle pour. Deep amber to red in color. Minimal head and lacing. This is a big and bold imperial IPA that doesnt feel much like an IPA. The feel is more barleywine - I know this has been said before but it is very close to the money. There is a sweet booziness here. Mouthfeel is smooth - the heat numbs your tongue and helps the beer open up as you get into it.

Pours a big deep red amber, thin off white head. Aroma is heavy booze, toffee, caramel, pine, sugary malt, hop resin. Flavor is super sweet sugary malt & bitter hop resin. This thing is a monster, nose is aggressive toffee liquor. Not my favorite

Wittales (635) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - AUG 31, 2014
Appearance was clear reddish amber with off creamy diminishing 1/2 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet pale, crystal, Vienna malts with slight orange candy, grapefruit and alcohol. Taste are malt sweetness upfront then gives way to slight orange, grapefruit, lemon, wood and warming alcohol. Palate are soft smooth creamy CO2 with full body, then lasting overly sweet finish. Just a tad too sweet for me.

A really nice beer, but overall killed by the candy sweetness. This could have been great. Caramel and toffee sweetness in the aroma, sweet malts in the flavor, a sugary malt bomb. No sign of the ABV though, although I suspect it will sneak up on me later.

Pours an amber color. Aroma is strong with citrus and balanced caramel. The flavor is a bit boozy with citrus hanging around with a strong bitter finish.

I don’t understand why this is a 99pt. beer? Please tell me. Aroma is of sweet malt then some unrefined hop blend. Taste is sweet (like malt extract) with most of the hops buried under the syrup. Hops do not shine in any aspect of this beer. Syrupy and under attenuated. Finish is slightly bitter. Maybe better aged and used as a makeshift Barleywine of sorts. Sorry, this is my least favorite Founders beer.
