Ginger nose, sweet roasty ginger bread flavor, spicey and sweet but I think I prefer their standard porter to this christmas cookie version, interesting though

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2007 New brew from Founder’s on tap. Like their Porter, which is delicious, only this is made with some mysterious and tasty spices. Perhaps cinnamon, clove...and others that I don’t know about. A little too bitter at the finish, but nicely refreshing. Very good beer!

On Nitro tap at Founders. Black with tan/light brown head with spices in the head. Flavor of chocolate and spice is quite nice. Cinamon and nutmeg. Tons of flavor. A good twist on the fine porter.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2005 on the nitro at founders....great dark appearance as typical with these beers...a nice and creamy palate; aroma is abundant of spices, cinnamon, chocolate; flavor is similar ( i agree with silphium that is was much too heavy on the anise)

On tap at Founders. Deep brown pour, medium/thick creamy nitrogen (no!) head leaving nice lacing. Cinnamon toast crunch aroma. Heavy anise (another no!) flavor with notes of cinnamon. Much of the underlying chocolatey malt character is dominated by the over-the-top anise. More or less the brewery’s version of Anchor Our Special Ale.

Definitely a nitrous pour. There is a creamy head, and that unmistakable flatness on your tongue that suggest nitro. I noticed a fair amount of anise in the beer, licoricey. Other than that, pretty decent winter brew. Warming. Filling.
