2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at Four Peaks in Tempe, pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out strange bourbon that clashes with English hops. Flavour is exactly the same - clashing bourbon and English hops. This is a bad experiment, as with most barrel aged IPAs. Poor.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured up on tap at the 2015 edition of the AZ Strong Beer Festival where it exhibits a slightly hazy copper body that supports a dirty white head of foam. The aroma offers up light smooth bourbon and oak notes as well as just a faint sense of hoppiness. The taste is malty and has just echoes of hops and then it has sweetened, presumably bourbon, spicy oakiness as well as the brash bourbon notes themselves heading to midway. The IPA is pretty lost in here and it doesn’t help that the standard offering isn’t all that hoppy in the first place.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Amber pour, off white head. Pretty damn tasty. The hops and caramel malt backbone meld pretty well with the bourbon and oak from the barrels. Nice offering.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at 1702 first barrel aged ipa. Had the raj before but the nose on this is awesome blend of hops and burbon. Hops come through on the flavor with a nice malt backbone. Finish is more the wood and borbon. Awesome.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap during the Four Peaks Local Fest at the Wilson tasting room. Sweet, rich nose of moderate bourbon, chewy toffee, a decent malt-heavy caramel tone, and just a touch of earthy hops. Pours a clear amber. Fairly mellow taste of bourbon and lightly roasted grains with a slight dirty-hop bitterness and a caramel candy flavor to finish. A solid beer, but the medium hoppiness from the normal Raj is sadly missing in this barrel-aged version.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This bourbon barrel version on tap at the brewery for a limited time. Reddish amber pour with no head. Lots of boozy flavor with the hops toned down too much. This version misses some of the things that make the original so good. I like the bourbon flavor, but miss the hops.
