COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Hop Knot IPA is made only from American malt and lots of American hops, which produce a big, broad-shouldered, hoppy beer backed up by a character as warm as, well, Mom and apple pie… Hop Knot IPA get its peculiar name from the weaving of four different hops added at four separate times during the brewing process. Including our cavernous hop-back, which gets so stuffed with whole leaf hops that we feel genuine guilt for its excess. Hop Knot is an ale that is to be enjoyed with friends, spicy food or any time you need a good hop fix without the harsh bitterness. We hope you enjoy this pioneering beer made in the bold spirit of Americans everywhere.

On tap at their Scottsdale brewpub. Very slightly hazy light copper supporting a medium off-white head. Floral and spicy aroma. West Coast IPA flavor profile with prominent grapefruit notes and a stiff malty backbone. Refreshingly smooth texture and a bright crisp finish. Very respectable desert brew.

A- Clear golden hue, big thick white head, thick lacing on the glass S- Moderate pine resin balanced with sweet grapefruit and bubblegum T- Sweet citrus and grapefruit dominate initially, opens up to subtle pine and floral hops, finishes with a touch of sweet and bitter hops M- Medium-bodied, watery texture, moderate carbonation D- Deliciously sweet IPA, easy drinking and well-balanced, this is a very delicious beer that was one of my favorites while living in Phoenix

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2011 On tap at the brewpub 1/13/09. Light gold color and heavily filtered. Small white head. Nose is floral with more hop profile than the Raj IPA. Taste comes off very hoppy and bitter with a small malt background. Mouth is full, fluffy and sharp. I prefer the Raj IPA to this one.

12oz bottle, no date as a bonus from Sparky27, thanks Eric! Clear honey golden with a one finger off-white head, pretty good retention. Aroma is dominant of sweaty citrus Cascades and a good amount of pine hops that blend into the sweet caramel malts and cotton candy that have the pine smelling sweet. I love it when they do that, though nothing else seems to be going on. Flavor has the pine turning a bit perfumey and the caramel malts a bit buttery. The finish is semi-dry with bitterness peaking around a 3. Light body with low carbonation. What’s here is actually pretty good, but kinda one-dimensional overall.

On Tap at the Scottsdale Brewery location. Good beer. Lots of hops, like an IPA from the west coast should be. Nice clean look with minimal head, not a ton of aroma. Flavor was hops and delicious.

Draught at the brewery in Tempe. Poured a clear copper with almost no head. Kind of generic as IPAs go, hoppy as expected, with its only distinguishing characteristic being a great brightness. Relatively low ABV but what little alcohol exists is well-hidden.

Tap at the brewery. So much better than I remember it! Clear, hoppy but not at all bittering or resiny or syrupy or piney. Just direct citrus hoppiness. Not quite as bright as the Raj but still crisp as hell and refreshing.

Draught at GABF 2008. Clear yellow - white head. Wet dog, giraf, leverpostej, pate, almost no hops, boring, dissapointing.

Cask at the brewpub in Tempe. Copper color with a foamy white head. Nice pine hop aroma with a bit of citrus. Medium body with lush carbonation. Flavor is resin over caramel background. Finish is pine and floral bitter. Very good.

draft at the brewpub. Best of the lot, but that’s not saying much. Mildly Hoppy. Nice, but nothing special.
