COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Hop Knot IPA is made only from American malt and lots of American hops, which produce a big, broad-shouldered, hoppy beer backed up by a character as warm as, well, Mom and apple pie… Hop Knot IPA get its peculiar name from the weaving of four different hops added at four separate times during the brewing process. Including our cavernous hop-back, which gets so stuffed with whole leaf hops that we feel genuine guilt for its excess. Hop Knot is an ale that is to be enjoyed with friends, spicy food or any time you need a good hop fix without the harsh bitterness. We hope you enjoy this pioneering beer made in the bold spirit of Americans everywhere.

Can. Pours a hazy golden orange with a thick, rocky fluffy off-white head that leaves some chunky lace. Nose involves some pine and floral notes, prominent sweet barley, some peach, fairly muted. Somewhat sweet flavor, with a fair bitterness. Medium-full body, quite soft, quite grainy, oily, with a lengthy twangy bitter and nearly tart exit. No clue on freshness, though it was purchased about 5 months ago, but it’s canned so you figure it would hold up a little better than a bottled version. Hops definitely seem faded, and the malt isn’t prepared to carry the load. If I can ever land a fresh version, I will rerate.

The beer pours okay with a clear straw color, a mild white ring of head, and some lacing on the glass. The beer smells decently with a definite citrus nose (grapefruit), somewhat bready and mildly resin smells too. The beer tastes decent with a prominent grapefruit taste up front that blends into a bready, mildly spicey, mildly resin flavors. The mouthfeel is decent as the beer was carbonated okay and leaves you dry and mildly bitter. Overall, a decent IPA with a great grapefruit flavor, definite cirtahop taste...recommended.

Can:   Orange side of golden, little haze, thin to moderate frothy white head, nice lacing.   Citrusy based hop nose.   Sweet pith and peel, which is uncommon.   Not candied, but sweetened.   Similar on the tongue, a touch of tea or tobacco leaves.   Not real bright, but flavorful in terms of hoppiness without being overly bitter.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Clean exit, soft bitterness lingers.   Straight forward and solid.   Not a really sweet fruity or floral example, but still a solid example.

On tap @ Tempe Brewery. Pours clear golden yellow with white head. Smell is fresh grapefruit, citrus, pine and malt. Taste is citrus juice, pine, bitter hops with sweet malts. Thin to medium bodied, good carbonation and balanced. Best offering from Four Peaks besides Sirius Black!

Serving: from tap at Four Peaks Brewing Company. Aroma: moderate pine hop aroma. Appearance: average-sized, frothy, off-white, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, dark-yellow body. Taste: moderately bitter initial flavor and moderately sour, citrus finish with average duration. Palate: medium body with dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall: excellent. Great aroma, and well balanced taste--not overly bitter.

Pours clear maber with a nice off white head. Aroma is hoppy citric piny malty a bit caramel on the backside. Flavor much as aroma, nice not too intense bitterness, quite fruity. A great session beer.

Blind taste tested against stone ipa and lost. More grapefruit than hops. Not as sharp or fresh as the stone ipa even though I'm in AZ. Not enough carbonation. A smooth ipa but too boring for me. Maybe I got a bad batch. Stone kicked its ass all around. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark amber with white head. Aroma is mostly caramel and floral. Light citrus. Taste is light to moderate sweet medium bitter. Finish is average. Body is full for an ipa. Not your stereotypical IPA with all the malts. A plus too since it’s brewed in AZ!

Pours a golden color with medium white head. Aromas of mild pine and some mild resin. Flavors of some mild bitter hops that are well balanced with the malt. This is one of my favorite local IPAs and one I find myself going to when there are not very many option.
