3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at My Wine Cellar. Pours a clear medium amber. Cloyingly sweet nose of caramel, syrupy malt, almonds, and a slight vegetal weed tone. Mellow taste of caramel, oak tannin, biscuit, moderate toasted grain, and slight honey. Somewhat slick mouthfeel. This is a difficult rating for me, not only because I drank (and thoroughly enjoyed) a boatload of Kilt Lifter in my early days of exploring local beer, but because it is a immensely important brew for Arizona craft beer. Whether it is caused by changes to the recipe or my palate, Kilt Lifter simply does not taste the same to me these days. The caramel flavor has become more cloying over the years. It is still a solid flagship beer, but I now prefer most of Four Peaks’ regular lineup over it.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is very light in color for an American take on the style. This is more in line with what I’d expect from an ESB or something like that. It’s pretty tasty though, very drinkable and malt-centric with a hint of smoke.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle in Phoenix. Good caramel malt aroma with very light smoke. Pours amber colored with a caramel hue with a thin white head and decent lacing. Good caramel malt flavors with very subtle smoke. Finishes smooth and dry with a bit of hops on the finish. Decent and refreshing, but lacks depth of flavor of other scotch ales.

Deep amber pour with limited off-white head. Aroma is caramelized malt, light peat, brown sugar. Sweet and malty with flavours of lightly toasted malt, some smoke and earthiness. Bitterness comes through on the finish. Dry. Okay.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. can. It pours a dark amber color with a tall off white head. The aroma is malty with English style yeast character. Some noticeable fruitiness and a hint of smoke. The flavor is toasty and fruity with raisin, plum, pear and some Munich malt near the finish. Decent bitter finish, but otherwise no hop flavor. Just ok.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours a deep amber copper color with three plus fingers of eggshell tight bubble suds. Nose is a bit medicinal with sweet underlying malts, touch of boozy acetone. The palate is better than the nose with round malt, honey and some grainy background that does get a bit weird on the finish actually... cardboard, fishy notes... meh, don’t think Ill be finishing this. But glad to tic a scottish ale of the list !

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Many bottles, as pictured. Decent beer. Kinda sweet, lots of malt, not a big hop character. Caramel, hazelnut. Thin, though, very easy to drink without much mouthfeel.
