COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an ale made in the tradition of the great strong ales of Scotland. Amber colored, malty sweet with underlying note of smokiness.

12oz bottle via trade with cbkschubert! - Thanks Craig! - Poured dirty amber with a short creamy offwhite head that stays and laces the glass some. Aromas of caramel malts, some dough, and a touch of smoke. Flavor is quite earthy, some smoke, caramel, roasted malts, and light floral hops also a touch of toffee on the finish.. Balanced pretty well and very drinkable. Would be a fair session, but hardly a kiltlifter!

Only had this one once in Flagstaff and didnít return to it. Not a bad beer, but nothing that really grabbed my attention to return when given quite a few others on the board. Do remember the sweet (perhaps caramel) undertones and a nice amber ale appearance.

Great malty aroma almost sweet smelling but did not factore into flavor, what I am saying is not too sweet in flavor but very malty, hint of roast, really good drinkin brew

Caramelly aroma; a little like a dunkelweiss. Somethingís a little off in the nose, but not bad. Doughy. Slightly hazy amber. Large off-white head that mostly diminshes but leaves a layer of head. Not much lace. Some visible carbonation. Initial mouthfeel is what I expected; somewhat doughy and malty. Second sip brings on some alcohol. Itís a bit of a misnomer that a 6% brew would "lift a kilt". Solid brew. Iím enjoying it. Pretty well balanced. The maltiness has some sweetness associated with it. A good brew.

A decent drinker. Smooth and malty with some roasted notes and mild hop presence. Would probably go good with food and is definitely light enough that one could have several and not feel weighted down.

On tap at Red Lobster and in bottles. Amber in color with white head that fades quickly. Carmel tones and a hint of smokiness. Not very impressed.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2012 On tap at Old Chicago in Tempe, AZ. Aroma is very faint. Light, mildly roasted caramel/cereal aroma that is not overly potent. Transparent copper color with frothy enough white head and nice lacing. Starts toasted/roasted, turning a bit metallic with more toastiness and a bit of sweet caramel. Finishes creamy, malty, and smooth with minute hop bitterness. Decent for the style, unfortunately the style sucks(4/4/7/4/12)~~~~~~~~RE-RATE~~~~~~~~~2 ounce sample at some wanna-be upscale Mexican bar at Sky Harbor in Phoenix. The aroma is sweet with slight caramel, and some metallic hints. Not much of anything else. Transparent copper body with a medium, quickly dissipating off-white head. Starts sweet with some caramel and light diacetyl butterscotch flavors. Sweet and sugary in the middle. Scant peat flavors late. Pretty thin, but somehow cloying and unimpressive.

Draft. Clear brown color that looks a lot like root beer. White head. Malty aroma with caramel notes. Rye-like flavor with more caramel and some raisin notes. Rather musty finish.

Iím a lager bigot but Iíll get a Kiltlifter. Flavorful enough to make me forget its an ale. It really tastes like some craft, time, and thought went into it. Head is noble, pours good, and tastes like a crowd-pleaser. Hop and malt, what more could you ask for? And taste. Itís filling, but not a complete dinner like Guiness is. I have no idea what "Scottish Ale" is so I cant comment there. This is a "gateway" beer: itíll lead to whiskey...

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2009 12 oz. bottle - Pours a clear deep copper color with a one finger thick off white head. Has a floral hop and light malty smoke aroma. Flavor leans to the malty side with just a tad bit of sweetness. Light to medium body. I like this beer.

Re-rate 12/31/09 - This beer has has lost a little bit of itís luster over time. Maybe itís an old bottle. Just a little disappointed. Iíll leave the numbers alone.
