3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A soft pour from the growler into my Spiegelau Stout glass produces a 1/4-finger thick, light brown head. The beer is a deep chocolate brown color that shows a clear, brown-amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of cinnamon up front, though it is not overwhelming, but it is dominant. This is backed by suggestions of cocoa, and there is a rounded allspice character here, as well as a toasted nutty backbone.
The beer is fairly light bodied for a beer of this strength, it has a light, prickly carbonation, and a bit of roast grain astringency to the finish. Flavors of cinnamon are the dominant note here, though it is not quite as prominent as it is in the flavor, and there is a finish that has a touch of warming, spicy, chile heat to it. Supporting malt flavors contribute notes of toasted nuts, some toasted whole grain bread, and just a touch of roasted character.
Not bad, but it is really a bit too thin and could really use a richer, dark malt base to make all the flavors balanced.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap pour - black with a nice light tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, hint of spicy pepper (cayenne), cocoa and quite good all-in-all. Flavor is sweet malt up front, slowly transitioning into a steady notable heat that doesn’t ramp up too far. Lots of chocolate notes, and the cinnamon is quite evident. Palate is medium (bordering on too light) bodied, and this drinks incredibly easy given the combination of style and ABV. I really liked this beer...felt a bit thin a times, but the level of heat and chocolate melded together quite well. Continue to be impressed by this brewery on my trip to PHX.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location: Draft at the Production Facility Tasting Room, 3/8/14
Aroma: The nose is chocolate, cinnamon, some peppery spice, and roast
Appearance: The pour is a dark brown-black color with a smallish brown head
Flavor: Flavor-wise it is chocolate and cinnamon, with some light peppery spice and a little roast
Palate: The body is medium, it has an average carbonation, and a smooth finish
I found this to be quite a tasty beer. It drinks nicely and has a good flavor. The balance between the sweetness and the spice works nicely too. Tasty stuff.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes. From my AZ trip.
The appearance was a black color. One finger-ed white foamy head that dies at a good pace. Good amount of nice somewhat foamy cling lacing tries to stick but ends up falling for the most part.
The smell had a good amount of Stout-like qualities of roast coffee and light chocolate, but there really isn’t any heat-like chile qualities.
The taste was sweet to earthy rustic like qualities coating my palate enthusiastically, milky like sweet aftertaste, that tries to lead to a dry finish but balances nicely for the most part.
On the palate, it sat about a light to medium, somewhat sessionable, mostly has a decent carbonation which is good for the style and for me.
Overall, I would have this again despite the lack of heat I was actually looking for.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft - Roast malts, chocolate and spice. Clearish mahogany with a rich brown head. Roast malts, molasses, lots of spice. Slight peppery heat in the finish, but the sweet spices really overwhelm. A richer chocolate base would have helped.
