3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The description had me excited about this one, but not sure it really hit the mark. Spices were just too weak. And at 8.1%, I’d have preferred a little more heft in the body. Overall, tasty enough - a sort of sweetish, chocolatey porter that certainly doesn’t offend - but never really captured the imagination as I’d hoped.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location: Draft at the Production Facility Tasting Room, 3/8/14
Aroma: The nose is chocolate, cinnamon, some peppery spice, and roast
Appearance: The pour is a dark brown-black color with a smallish brown head
Flavor: Flavor-wise it is chocolate and cinnamon, with some light peppery spice and a little roast
Palate: The body is medium, it has an average carbonation, and a smooth finish
I found this to be quite a tasty beer. It drinks nicely and has a good flavor. The balance between the sweetness and the spice works nicely too. Tasty stuff.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes. From my AZ trip.
The appearance was a black color. One finger-ed white foamy head that dies at a good pace. Good amount of nice somewhat foamy cling lacing tries to stick but ends up falling for the most part.
The smell had a good amount of Stout-like qualities of roast coffee and light chocolate, but there really isn’t any heat-like chile qualities.
The taste was sweet to earthy rustic like qualities coating my palate enthusiastically, milky like sweet aftertaste, that tries to lead to a dry finish but balances nicely for the most part.
On the palate, it sat about a light to medium, somewhat sessionable, mostly has a decent carbonation which is good for the style and for me.
Overall, I would have this again despite the lack of heat I was actually looking for.

Draft in a taster at the Wilson Taproom. Pours a deep amber color with a beige head. Notes of chocolate, mellow chile and cinnamon spice, vanilla, and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, malty mouthfeel. Nice beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft - Roast malts, chocolate and spice. Clearish mahogany with a rich brown head. Roast malts, molasses, lots of spice. Slight peppery heat in the finish, but the sweet spices really overwhelm. A richer chocolate base would have helped.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at 1702. Deep black with surpisingly white head. Roasted malt and sweet aromas. Flavor is roasted malt with just a hint of cinnamon from the mexican chocolate. I seem to have just a nice spice note on the end too. Very nice.

3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at brewery. Disappointed with this one. Thin and an off flavor. Needs more chocolate and complexity

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler pours with a dark amber body that supports a nice tan head. The modest aroma offers up some chocolate, a faint caramel malt note, malt sweetened soft roasted malts, a dab of chili pepper meat and then ending with a Nestles Quick chocolate sensation. The taste begins sweet where malty to caramel malt sweetness smooths out the light dark roasted malt notes. It then heads into a fruity almost date like note mixed with chili pepper meat and a moment or two of chili pepper heat. The chocolate picks up into the finish helping to end the experience of this mild, smooth and kind of thin brew.
