darker than expected pour... mahogany/auburn/reddish brown with a pale beige head. clear.
aromas of toffee, bitter hops, spice, florals, malt, earthiness, toast and some citrus.
the flavor is the same... kind of a beefed up kiltlifter with hints of smoke, chocolate and a spicy finish as it warms. nicely balanced.
it is rich and malty but dry and very quaffable at the same time. 7/4/7/4/16
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 SuperDave (1933) - Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA - JAN 8, 2011
Deep amber brown pour with a lacy head. Aroma of toasted bread, chocolate, nuts and earthy hops. Flavor is only slightly bitter, actually nicely balanced, with a decent spicy hop finish. Better than I expected, but not amazing.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BOLTZ7555 (2378) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - SEP 26, 2010
On tap @ Scottsdale location. Not traditionally a fan of the style but really enjoyed this beer. Chestnut colored pour with a crimson hue and creamy eggshell head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malt, oat, caramel and fruit. Flavor is toasted malt, biscuit, with a slight hoppy finish. Medium mouthfeel. Yum.

On cask at the Tempe location. Pours a dark shade of amber with an oatmeal colored head. Smells mildly of hops and maple leafs. Tastes of cereal, sweet malts, toffee, and black tea. Smoove.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bleeng (1372) - Houston nowhere near Beersel, Texas, USA - SEP 5, 2010
Draft at the brewery. Dark brown with a foamy white head. Nose is very subtle and light as the beer is cold. Taste of a bit of a chocolate, with a very light malt and hop profile. Not at all what I was expecting from an ESB. Really not to style but a very good beer. Smooth like a cask beer.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 nmoskop (79) - Arizona, USA - SEP 2, 2010
Not my favorite Four Peaks brew, but worth a try none the less...especially for beer enthusiasts. The balance is exceptional, which is the key to any solid ESB. Toasted malt with a slight resin aftertaste. Poured slighty darker than expected.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 daknole (7204) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - SEP 1, 2010
Tap. Brown pour with a creamy beige head. Nuances of chocolate, pumpernickel bread, toasted malt and light earthy hops in the nose. Flavor starts out with a bready, malty flavor and a bitter hoppy finishes this nicely.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dcschiller (1994) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 25, 2010
(on draught at Tempe location). Pours dark copper with off-white head. Aroma of resin and citrus. Taste is sweet with hop bitterness. Medium bodied with an oily/sticky texture. Finish is bitter. A decent beer that is hoppier and less malty than I expected.
