3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FlacoAlto (3155) - Tucson, USA - NOV 21, 2005
UPDATED: NOV 22, 2005 This beer is a deep brown color and has a wispy tan colored head. The spice character is nicely mellow, yet definitely noticeable. The hints of pumpkin pie spice lift up the malt sweetness and accentuate the roast character just a tad. The roasted notes remind me of dark chocolate and hints of roasted coffee beans. There is only a light bitterness in the finish, which is quite appropriate for accentuating the pumpkin pie spices. Actual pumpkin flavor, if here at all, is not noticeable under the porter & spicing notes. There is a certain fullness on the palate which helps to make this a tasty autumnal release.

Perhaps the perfect porter! Great for the fall season. Slight hint of pumpkin in aroma and taste. Four Peaks continues with their stellar beers.

Draft at 1702. Pours very dark brown without much head. Thin mouthfeel. Not much on the nose. Definite pumpkin on the tongue to the exclusion of everything else.

On tap; purer a dark brown-black with not much head. Aroma of pumpkin spice, roasted malt, with some sweetness. Flavor was very much the same, with a bit more sweetness. Some nice qualities.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 J_man (421) - Tustin, California, USA - NOV 15, 2010
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2011 Very dark with a ruby tinge and a small tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malt and pumpkin pie spices with a light sweetness. Definite pumpkin flavor with good (not too much) pie spice. There’s a bit more sweetness than necessary, almost a slight candy corn taste (or am I just imagining this because of the season?). Slightly creamy texture without being too heavy or too light. The spices get even better as you go! Hazelnut in the aftertaste with a slight vegetal component that’s very nice. The dark roasted malt of the Porter style works great with these flavors. It’s amazing that this is the only truly dark pumpkin beer I know of because once you think about it and taste it, it’s an obvious thing to do. I was very lucky tonight and caught the *last* keg of this for the year! I hope I’m in AZ next year when this comes out. And here I am again in 2011 enjoying this year’s batch! Still just as delicious as I remember and possibly a little less sweet which is even better. Had to have 2 just to make sure.

Draft, courtesy of nbutler11, thanks! Pumpkin beers are not usually my style, but this one is subtle fruit in a decent porter base. Nice balance and good body.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2011 (on draught at Scottsdale location). Pours brown with off-white head. Aroma is predominantly of nutmeg and some spices. Some chocolate as well. Sweet but balanced. Light to medium bodied with a creamy texture. Finish is smooth and long. Getting chocolately notes of the porter to compliment the spices. Nice beer.

Pour thanks to daknole! Aroma is fall in a bottle. Notes of pumpkin bread, cocoa powder, cinnamon, vanilla and clove. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of brown sugar and gingerbread. This is very easily one of my favorite pumpkin brews, I only wish the body were a little more full.
