This is a Bavarian ale which uses 51% wheat malt in the recipe. Very low bitterness. It is unfiltered so the characteristic cloudiness is achieved. The haze comes from suspended yeast. Hefe-Weizen literally means "yeast-wheat." The aroma is reminiscent of cloves and banana and is put out by the yeast. While some of this aroma carries over to the flavor, the dominant flavor is the malty wheat.

Draft at the Wilson Taproom. Pours a cloudy pale gold with a small white head that settles into a ring. Notes of banana, clove, lemon, sweet and doughy malts, and wheat. Straightforward enough. Light-medium bodied, with a sweet mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Good hefe.

On tap @ Four Peaks. Pours hazy golden yellow with white head. Smells of citrus, banana and wheat. Taste is wheat, citrus, banana and grapefruit or guava. Interesting take on the style, not my favorite. Medium bodied creamy mouthful.

Serving: from tap at Four Peaks Brewing Company. Aroma: moderate citrus aroma. Appearance: very small, white, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Hazy, light-yellow body. Taste: lightly sour clove and citrus initial flavor and moderately sour, citrus finish with short duration. Palate: light body with watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: very good. I’d like to drink this again.

On tap, hazy yellow/orange pour with large white head. Aroma of wheat, yeast, cloves, and slight spice. Taste of wheat, coriander, slight citrus, faint yeast. Medium bodied, nice carbonation, nice crisp mouthfeel. Very good hefeweizen.

A nice light banana aroma. Very cloudy yellow. The flavor is plentiful with banana but a bit too wheaty for my tastes. A refreshing but overly-wheaty hefe.

Funky wheat aroma. Very light color, very foggy, piney color with a short, dense head. Sweetish. Starchy, faint banana, fainter clove. Medium light body, low carbonation. On tap, brewpub, Tempe.

On tap at Hilltop in Phoenix. Very cloudy yellow pour with 1/2 inch white head. Very nice hefe. Lots of citrus, banana and spice. Medium body. One of the better American hefe’s I’ve tried.

Tap @ Four Peaks Tempe. Pours a cloudy yellow appearance with a white head. A bit spicy, bready yeasty, clove, mild banana aroma. Lightly tart, lemon zesty, chewy yeasty, banana flavor. Good American version but nothing too special.
