3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, - MAR 25, 2007
Cask at Banbury Beer Festival Fri 23rd March. Recomended this beer by Glen I was really looking forward to it. The beer poured black, and very black indeed with a nice beige head. Some sweet coffee notes, with burnt, roasty aroma’s. Taste was little liquoricey, coffee, I got a taste reminiscent of that camp coffee that my nan always used to have but a slightly more watered down version. This was a very pleasant beer but just a touch thin and not quite what I expected.

A Sim rate (cask at St Albans BF): Very roasty coffee aroma that just keeps on giving. Nice. Appearance is a classic almost opaque with a tinge of red. It would be a 4 with some head and/or lacing. Similar flavour to the aroma... strong roasty hit at hte beginning with lasting coffee flavour and a dark chocolate finish. Tangy, almost grapey aftertaste.

On graught at the Bow Bar Edinburgh: As black as coffee, small tanned layer, sticking to the glass; a bit of sweetish fruitiness in the roast-malty flavour; medium bodied, moderate to full bitter-sweet flavour; gets drier towards the fruity-malty finish; "roasted" aftertaste. Fine stuff.....
