INGREDIENTS
The malted barley is grown on Branthill Farm, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, which is just over the hill from Burnham Thorpe, Nelson’s birthplace. A special ale produced using Nelson’s Blood rum liqueur, made by The Lord Nelson public house of Burnham Thorpe, the birthplace of the great man.
TASTING NOTES
A deep reddish orange coloured ale with a malty, yet spicy aroma of cough candy, cloves, cinnamon and liquorice. The taste is smooth sweet and malty with light, spicy flavours along with a rich molasses, rum-like taste.

[500ml bottle, Beers of Europe, King’s Lynn] Really interesting nose - slightly acetic, some rich plummy fruit from the rum. Pours a deep brownish red with a very thin head. The primary flavour comes from the rum – a rich spiciness, slight sourness that gives a strangely ketchup-style flavour. Just not sure it’s that well-balanced, the flavours don’t add up to a convincing whole [04052009]

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and spices, as well light notes of ginger. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of ginger and caramel, leading to a dry spicy finish - especially cardemomme. Thanks fonefan for sharing.

Bottle 50cl.
Light unclear medium amber color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, nutty, spicy - rum cask wood, light to moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. (220808)

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of fonefan. Slightly hazy amber golden with a small, rough, of-white head. Delicious fruit aroma – and some distinct Brett. Medium body, lightly sweet caramel and nuts and some fairly spicy notes. Lightly bitter finish. Doubt that the Brett was intended, but it really adds to the beer in a positive way. 220808

Bottle, shared by fonefan. It pours an orange-golden slightly hazy body under a beige head of minimal height. More or less a layer of bubbles. Dusty, slightly citric nose with caramel and toffee. Caramel and some spiced notes in the flavor, along with a slightly funky note. Medium body. Dusty, citric and sour finish with some bitterness. Even though it’s a drinkable beer, there’s evidence of infection in it, which would probably have left it undrinkable in short time. (080822)
