3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jebert (405) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 16, 2009
Pours a thick creamy light tan head over a hazy cooper color with lots of cascading bubbles. Nose is malt, peat and licorice. Taste is bold, smoky with hints of barley and corn husk with a slight astringency. A sharp hop finish clears the palate. Pairs well with lamb stew or gyros.

On tap at Fratellos Oshkosh. Copper with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malts, wheat and mild roasted malts. Taste of sweet malts, caramel, roasted malts with a touch of toffee and mild hops. Smooth and decent, I’d have this one again.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ughsmash (6669) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 20, 2006
On tap at F.R. Appleton. Poured deep amber with a cap of off-white head. Sweet caramel, toffee, berries, and a hint of peat in the nose. Toasty caramel was smooth across the middle with some alcohol feel on the roof and toffee + peat at the finish. Medium-bodied with a rather long-lasting sweet and smoky finish. Very good for the style and the best brew of the night.

Deep rosy amber in color with a rim of white head around the edges. Nutty and pine aroma, some cardboard and American whisky. Small hints of maple and brown sugar. Creamy and robust - nuts and caramel really come out. Tastes a lot like a sweetened Irish red. Piney backdrop and subtle spicing to give this one character. Well done incorporation of malts. Caramelized pecan finish.

Dark brown color, small off white head that faded quickly but left a ver small amount of lace.Malty caramel aroma lightly roasty with maybe a hint of hops coming through.malty taste with a decent caramel flavor but still a bit thin. The alcohol is mild at best with just a faint hop presence.Yes it is somewhat sweet with a burnt like quality coming through as well.Over all it's pretty good and definately better then the 2 previous brews i've had from them.Well worth trying again and i's have to say that this brew would make a decent summer drinker. Thanks to Joeybgood for sending this brew.

Cask, RAF Chicago, 2004: Translucent red plum - fairly still with small white bubbles. Malted, alcoholic plum aroma, with some neat grassy notes that join well with the deep peatiness. Crisp, refreshing palate - clean fresh pears and deep orange (non-tart) plum flesh. Though the finish is lacking an interesting catch, the wonderful fruity flavours make an enjoyable experience.

Clear, medium brown pour with a mild nose, somewhat earthy and malty, syrupy mouthfeel, not bad especially for the style.

Light chestnut color with a smaller off white head. Heavy caramel aromas with a nice backdrop of darker malts with light pine tree hops and some peat. Mild caramel and vanilla flavors. Dry peat in the linger make one think about chewing on a piece of wood, but otherwise quite good.
