A German style unfiltered wheat beer with citrus notes on the palate and powerful aroma of clove and banana, imparted by a unique yeast strain.

Tap@PorterhouseDublin. Light fruity aroma with hops notes. Cloudy, yellow colour, white head, good lace. Sweetish, bitter, hops, hint of banana, lightly spiced. Medium body. Not much like a real German Hefeweizen. I like those sweeter and fuller.

Bottle, from Tesco Cleethorpes. Hazy orange gold, thin shortlived white head and moderate condition. Low fruity esters, hints of lemon citrus and a slight spiciness in the nose, dry and slightly yeast bitter with a faintly estery fruitiness that has a low infected edge to it, dry yeasty finish with some clove notes lingering.

The head is ok, the body orange and cloudy. It smells fruity, hoppy, refreshing, aromatic, yeasty. The taste is fresh-yeasty, a bit fruity, refreshing, bit citrus, wheatmalty. Nice 12/12/12/12/-/12

Franciscan Well 17/05/06. This one was called Friar Wiesse when I visited there in May. Some cloves in the taste and aftertaste was of cinnamon - at first it was almost a cinnamon burn. Strong cinnamon nose. This was a bit different to most wheat beers that I have tried and I quite liked this one because of its difference.

CanIHave4Beers (2897) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - JUN 19, 2012
On draught at the Porterhouse (Central)

Pours a very hazy yellow with a small-ish head.

The aroma is the perfect combination of spicy banana on clove. The beer smells sweet but it’s aromatic and spot on for a hefeweizen.

The flavor is spicy and not overly sweet at all, the banana is just right without being cloying or overbearing. The beer is fairly clean all around, or at least as clean as a hefeweizen can be. The level of spice is low to style.

Remarkably true to style, no way this wouldn’t pass as a true German made Hefe in a blind taste test.

Draught at O’Neills Dublin. Deep honey colour with a thin head. Wheat and honey aroma. Flavour is dry wheat with some honey, quite flat, lacks a bit of zest.

stravale (1883) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - NOV 30, 2013
Bottle from Tesco Longford [301113]
Orange, hazy, frothy white head that quickly dissipates, slight lacing
Aroma - soft sweet wheat, touch of banana, hubba bubba bubble gum, quite fruity
Taste - Soft sweet quite fruity malts, wheat, dab of orange, bubble gum, slight apricot, some spicy clove notes coming through, soft flavours
Palate - Medium carb, medium body, bit powdery texture, finding it rather too sweet though. Finish - light bitter spicy, smooth, rapid finish
Overall - Lacking guts, bit too sweet, but easy and smooth. Quite a decent soft Hefeweizen (I’m not that keen on ones that are overpowering).
