Outstanding example of what an Irish red ale should be. Bursting with malt and caramel . For a beer of such % the flavor is excellent. Even tho they brewed this for many years its the first time they bottled it. Got mine in Bradley’s north main street cork.

this is a well balanced ale.very clear with a hint of caramel in the after taste. I would say the best Irish red ale on the market. Had it in the bull and castle under the name of castle red. Barman said they only name it differently in this bar and is known as rebel red everywhere else. i did read however that they will be exporting it shortly to Amercia where it will be rebranded as franciscan red. something to do with another brewery having the rights to the name rebel.

Aroma is one of caramel and toast, very pleasant. Reddish appearance with nice lacey head. Taste is amazing, caramel notes, very well balanced.
Medium bodied, one of the nicest irish reds i have tryed.

Cask conditioned at The Black Sheep, Dublin. Deep red with small white frothy head, plenty of lacing. Aroma full of rich almost nutty malt and earthy English hops. Taste full of depth, very full mouthfeel with a lovely degree of earthy hop bitterness, thick caramel malt, nutty notes too. A solid Irish red.

Good caramel and malt aroma. Thick creamy head and very clear. Very nice roast and caramel flavors. A bit thin and leaves mouth dry at the finish, but I could drink this all night.

Draft @ Bull and Castle, Dublin. (under Castle Red)
Cuivre, col ocre.

Amber. Caramel nose. Tastes caramelly, earthy and not particularly interesting. Pretty indistinctive.

Draft @ O’Neill’s. Lovely red hue, strawberry color. Nicely sparkled head on this one. Odd tomato soup aroma is somehow inoffensive...The palate is soft. Flavors are bready but like store-bought sliced brown bread. Not totally healthy.

Draught at Bull & Castle, Dublin (as Castle Red). Clear brownish amber, creamy head. Mildly roasty and fruity. Medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Mid hoppy with growing bitterness. Edgeless, nice and well drinkable.

Draught. Bull & Castle, Dublin.
Copper amber body, white foam.
Muted aroma of toffee and subtle roast.
Medium body, slight shewiness about it.
Nutty caramel malts, nothing else really oustanding, maybe a hint of fruit.
Moderate bitter finish.
