Outstanding example of what an Irish red ale should be. Bursting with malt and caramel . For a beer of such % the flavor is excellent. Even tho they brewed this for many years its the first time they bottled it. Got mine in Bradley’s north main street cork.

this is a well balanced ale.very clear with a hint of caramel in the after taste. I would say the best Irish red ale on the market. Had it in the bull and castle under the name of castle red. Barman said they only name it differently in this bar and is known as rebel red everywhere else. i did read however that they will be exporting it shortly to Amercia where it will be rebranded as franciscan red. something to do with another brewery having the rights to the name rebel.

[25/05/16] Bottle at my hotel in Dublin. Nice red body with slight head. Nose is malty, caramel, nuts. Taste is also caramel, quite bitter, floral notes. Toasty. Pretty good.

Bottle, bought at a local store in Split, brewed at Sharp’s. Waited for me for 7 months, as I forgot to rate it last December. Oh well. Coppery amber body with a small off white head, small but lasting. A bit fizzy. Dried fruit and caramel in the aroma, some orange too. Creamy taste, raisins, fruity, light mouthfeel, but full body for the ABV technically, honey and caramel, solid carbonation, not excessive. Not a bad beer overall by any means, miles ahead of that Doom Bar garbage, not superb, but if you like a solid, light malt-driven beer and don’t have a better choice, why not.

Beautiful red pour with a rich, luscious creamy beige head. Fruity nose. Bready, malty flavor. Water mouthfeel. Refreshing as hell but drinks somewhat like an American macro light beer. Bottle @ The English market, Cork, Ireland.

Dec. ’15. A 0.33 l bottle from a local Tommy supermarket. This one poured a clear brownish-red body with a tiny head atop. Caramel aroma, coarser. Flavor was lightly bitter, roasted caramel, only a bit fruity. Light herbal hops spiced it up. Thin bodied, but absolutely normal for the style. Finished lightly sweet with pleasant, elegant toasted malt notes, especially the smooth biscuit. Okay, a pleasant Irish ale. It’s been a while since my last one.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Clear dark amber, small off-white head. Both the aroma and the taste a malt-driven, caramelized sugar, plum jam, dark honey. A hint of toasted bread and a touch of spicy hops in the finish. The somewhat abrasive carbonation is the only downside. Not bad.

A light beer for summer evenings. Aroma: cookies, biscuit, molases, caramel, herbs, grapes, cherry. Appearance: medium, frothy, tan foam, amber, clear body. Taste: At first - medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour; in the end - medium sweetness, medium sourness, lightly bitter; too short aftertaste. Palate: light to medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation.
