A robust amber ale with a distinct caramel flavor imparted by crystal malt and balanced by the hop varieties challenger and fuggles.

Cask at GBBF 08. Deep amber colouration. Sugary, malty aroma which leads into a strong caramel flavour. Quite light given the strength. Not that impressive.

[2187-20090520] Tap. Weird vegetal sweet grains aroma has a random poo peat note. Clear, dark red amber body with a small long-lasting creamy off-white head. Toasted grain flavour has lots of wet paper notes and a very mild hint of chocolate. Medium body. Discontinuous aroma and flavour, odd.

Poured a murky medium amber with a disappearing tan froth. Aroma of sweet, zesty caramel malt. Medium body, flavour of sweet milk chocolate and moderate berry hints.

Franciscan Well 17/05/06. I quite liked the colour of this one although a pretty bland taste after trying the Friar Wiesse. Malt nose, some caramel and a touch of rhubarb also toffee in the taste.

Cask, Burton Fest 07. Toffee coloured with a small head. Aromas are toffee and caramel with berries. Some spices. Soft and Kentish. Flavours are soft toffee malts with sweet earthy pear and ripe apple. OK, if a bit soft.

Draught. Bull & Castle, Dublin. Copper amber body, white foam. Muted aroma of toffee and subtle roast. Medium body, slight shewiness about it. Nutty caramel malts, nothing else really oustanding, maybe a hint of fruit. Moderate bitter finish. Not bad.
