On tap at the brewery. Beige head that was the darkest of any of the dry stout heads that I have encountered. Very, very dark brown colour. Coffee aroma. Hell of roasty and hell of matly as well. A little bit bitter. Coffee and chocolate tastes were very prevalent.

Franciscan Well 17/05/06. Good deep black body with a well kept light tan head. Smoke (cigarettes) on the nose which carries through to the taste, soy sauce, just a little harsh. Light to medium body.

Cask (gravity dispense), Cambridge Beer Festival, May 2006. Very dark - almost black - appearance with a scant beige head. Robust roast malt aroma. Dry mouthfeel with some powdery cocoa notes. An agreeable enough, if undemanding, dry stout.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Cambridge BF. A flat looking black stout. The aroma has some dry roastiness together with some smoke. The taste is dry with again a little roastiness. It’s drinkable but all too clean and uneventful for a stout.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Joeh (2038) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAY 25, 2006
Cask at Cambridge Beer Festival 2006. Black with amber hues. Roasted, slightly sweaty malt upfront with a dry bitter roast finish. Notes of dark chocolate and coffee. I didn’t find it very interesting.
