Cask at GBBF 08. Black with a slight chocolate aroma. Easy palate, perhaps a little light. Closer to a porter or even a mild than a stout.

Cask@GBBF08. Very black colour, small brown head, that lasts for quite a bit. Aroma is smoke, fudge, caramel malts as well as some licorice. Flavour is the same along with sweet fruits. Ends in a quite fruity/wooden bitterness.

Nitro-keg at the brewery. Nice, slightly sweet roasted aroma, muted by the nitrogen. Predictably its flavour profile is very similar to the three big Irish dry stouts, only its a bit sweeter and the roasted flavours, more coffee than chocolate, are a little more pronounced. Also it has a slightly fuller body. Pretty nice, definitely beats its competition.

Cask, Burton Fest 07. Almost black with no head. Aromas are light earthy roast malts with chocolate and mellow berries. Not quite roasty enough to be coffee. Quite soft in character. Flavours are soft roast malts with earthy notes. Light berries and bubblegum. Some chocolate malts. Dry on the finish. OK.

Cask@25th Burton Summer Beer Festival, 2007. Black beer with a roasted and malty aroma and flavour. Overall a nice beer.

On tap at the brewery. Beige head that was the darkest of any of the dry stout heads that I have encountered. Very, very dark brown colour. Coffee aroma. Hell of roasty and hell of matly as well. A little bit bitter. Coffee and chocolate tastes were very prevalent.

Franciscan Well 17/05/06. Good deep black body with a well kept light tan head. Smoke (cigarettes) on the nose which carries through to the taste, soy sauce, just a little harsh. Light to medium body.
