2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 brotan1 (12) - Texas, USA - MAY 15, 2013
Had this beer at Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie (2013) This was my first introduction to Franconia and I thought it was a middle of the road Dunkel.. medium sweet aroma, nice and dark, I expected a bigger flavor but for the most part it was plain. Overall I say this is a good sipping beer to drink at the end of the winter or beginning of spring.. One might even drink this to compliment a nice plate of spare ribs.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 kevinator (326) - The Colony, Texas, USA - JUL 14, 2012
I think this is one of Franconia’s better beers. I’m not a huge fan of their beer profiles but for the style this is a decent offering. A slight roasted aroma
with sweet malt is what hit me first. This is continued in the taste; however, I would have preferred it to be a bit stronger. The color was typical dunkel-dark and the palate was nothing unique. Not bad because it followed the beer’s traditional profile.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Mora2000 (4059) - McKinney, Texas, USA - JUL 22, 2011
On tap at the Holy Grail Pub.
The beer pours a dark brownish-red color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of toffee and caramel malts with a little bit of chocolate malt mixed in. The flavor is full of chocolate and darker malts with a little bit of smoke character also coming through. The beer is pretty sweet due to all of the malts. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 ilikestuff (224) - Irving, Texas, USA - MAY 21, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights when held to the sun. Lots of chocolate/mocha/coffee flavors and a nice roasty aroma. Mouthfeel is a bit creamy due to low carbonation level. One of the best dunkels I have had and one of my favorites from this brewery.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 troyc (2014) - Oklahoma, USA - APR 11, 2011
[Tap] It’s great to see some Franconia beers being distributed in Oklahoma now. Pours a very dark shade of brown without any head. Aroma of hazelnut, chalky malts and dry chocolate. The taste was quite intersting. Prominent cherry/amaretto taste is somewhat surprising. Sweet malts and some chocolate are evident throughout. The palate was a tad light, with low carbonation levels. Not sure if this is what they were going for in the beer, so I’ll have to give it another try.
