COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A German "Dunkel" (dark) brewed as a Lager with Two Row Malt, Munich Malt and some Roasted Malts. Spiced up with German Hops from the Hallertau and a German Lager Yeast gives this Brew a nice dunkel (dark) color and some Malt sweetness with a nice finish of balanced Hops and a little chocolaty taste for the finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights when held to the sun. Lots of chocolate/mocha/coffee flavors and a nice roasty aroma. Mouthfeel is a bit creamy due to low carbonation level. One of the best dunkels I have had and one of my favorites from this brewery.

Draft at Flying Saucer Addison. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of Munich malts with a hint of roast. Lighter side of medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Flavor of dark german malts countered by a soft spicy bitterness. Cocoa and nut notes on the finish. Pretty solid for a Dunkel.

On tap at the Holy Grail Pub. The beer pours a dark brownish-red color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of toffee and caramel malts with a little bit of chocolate malt mixed in. The flavor is full of chocolate and darker malts with a little bit of smoke character also coming through. The beer is pretty sweet due to all of the malts. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Pours a dark brown/black in color with an off white head. Aroma is of coffee grounds. Flavor is dominated by a chocolate/coffee malt profile. Lightly hopped, but very balanced. My first try from this brewery, hopefully more to come in the future.

Hand bottle… Clear, very dark, mahogany lager with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The nutty aroma presents pistachios and almonds intermingled with mild notes of chocolate and coffee. Light to medium-bodied and mildly creamy with gentle carbonation. The well-balanced flavor provides a modest note of chocolate and a splash of espresso. A bit thin. Crisp, watery, refreshing finish. This must be the lager equivalent of a brown ale. Thanks to ericandersnavy for providing the large sample!

This beer pours black with a medium beige head that lasts. The aromas are light chocolate and malt. The flavors are light chocolate with a hint of vanilla. Overall an average beer, but quite drinkable.
