The first of five special release beers in honor of the brewery’s 5th anniversary. Also the first beer from the brewery that doesn’t conform to the reinheitsgebot.

On tap @ Henry’s Plano. Near black brew with very little head. Nose is big time roasted malt - flavors of chocolate, roasted malt, and a smooth finish. Glad to see Franconia branching out a bit and look forward to the rest of this series.

(Draught) clear medium brown, very low carbonation. Nose of chocolate malt, oatmeal, but papery. Taste of oats, light eatery chocolate, bit of graham cracker, wish it was more flavorful in general. Quite light in body and carbonation. Watery linger.

Tap at macs. The look is dark, black in color, beige colored head. The smell is malty, roasty, coffee, oat, and decent. The taste is malt, coffee, roast, oat, sweet, and rich.

Pours black with tan head. Aroma of dark roasted grain and subtle hints of dark chocolate with a pleasant light grain. Flavor is much the same with a dry, lager like cleanliness. Medium mouth feel with medium carbonation and a light silky mouthfeel. Overall, a very clean, dry stout.

Tap at Oak St. Black pour with a thin tan head. Strong roasted aroma. A lot ofcoffee. Taste is big chocolate up front with bitter coffee in the finish. Body is a bit thinner than I expected. Very enjoyable.

On tap at The Pub in McKinney. The beer pours a murky dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate with some toasted malt thrown in. The flavor has more chocolate, as well as some oats, roasted malt and a bit of earth. Medium, creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice beer.
