3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ibrew2or3 (4699) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - NOV 1, 2011
On tap at La Rustica in Lippstadt. Pours clear amber with copper hues and tan head. The aroma is sort of spicy with hops followed by toasted bread, a thin ribbon of caramel candy and a faint hop earthiness. The taste is very similar and a bit on the lively side with mild spicy hops and earthy hops mixing with roasted malts, toasted wheat bread and caramel candy. Nice Alt.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 ElDesmadre (383) - Mikołów, POLAND - JUL 16, 2011
Bottle. Dark greyish brown with quite quickly dissipating head. Aroma is caramel, coffee, hops, fruit (mango maybe), malt and a bit of honey. Taste is unexpectedly fruity for an altbier, caramel and coffee are not as prominent as in the nose, some malt and honey and a medium bitterness which grows with the drinking. Perfect altbier.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 prawlie (474) - Berkshire, ENGLAND - JUL 11, 2011
500 mL bottle from Beers of Europe into a pint glass. Dark brown with a foamy head. Tastes somewhat roasted, a little bitter and pleasant. Tastes more like an English beer than a German one, a bit porter-ish. Tastes a bit of roastedness, but thats about it. If this is what altbiers taste like I wouldn’t mind sampling a few more. Pretty good stuff, not exceptional but nice.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 villevav (42) - FINLAND - JUL 7, 2011
Although mass-produced by a large brewery, Frankenheim Alt is one of my favourite Altbiers around. This is due to the full, malty body, which is a not as sweet as e.g. Schumacher Alt. The taste is supported by a refreshingly carbonated mouthfeel.
