Medium chestnut colored, thin head, lots of carbonation. Earthy malt and nutty aroma, like a cross between a dunkel and an English brown. Hazelnut and roasty malt flavors are quite distinctive, and intercepted by an adequate bitterness, touch of sourness. Light bodied, not as fizzy as expected, with a lingering finish. My first of the style, and I quite enjoyed it.

ladny kolor, doś fajny aromat, ale szczerze to chyba najgorszy niemiecki alt jaki pilem, niby ma typowy dla alta smak ale jakiś taki lurowaty i wodnisty, goryczka jakaś taka nieprzyjemna, na usprawiedliwienie piwa dodam, że piję go 3 dni przed terminem ważności

In August 2006 I wrote this on BA: This beer used to be a great example of an Alt Beer. Sadly something has happened (has Warstiener messed with the ingrediants?). I used to buy 5 litre mini barrels of it when I lived in Germany. So when on holiday on the Mosel, I saw it on tap in a bar I happened to be in, I revisited it. It is lighter, appeared weaker and almost tasteless, not the beer I remembered at all, very dissappointed! Of course it may well have been only poor in the bar I was in, so please try it if you see it, and let me know if it was a one off on my part.

A good balance between bitter and malty, both in aroma and flavor. Better than average, and quite like an english bitter, in fact. Not memorable, but it still beats any mass market beer.

Had this early morning and tasted great. Nice ruby color, nice sweet taste and easy palette. Good breakfast bear. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
