The malt-focused ale uses roasted barley to give it its robust red color and roasted taste with subtle caramel notes for a clean, balanced taste and dry finish

On tap at the brewery, Frankenmuth. Amber body, thin tight cream head. Slightly sweet nose with cereals and grassy hops. Sweet body with brown sugar, light caramel, grassy hops, and hints of diacetyl. Thin but not bad.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy redish amber. Medium off white head. Mild caramel aroma. Some roastiness in the flavor, but again mild. A bit of bitterness in mouthfeel. Decent beer. Nothing that I can complain about, but nothing that jumped out and said "Please have another".

Sampled from a bottle, this beer has a clear red-brown pour with some rust colors, it made a one finger or so off-white bubbled head, there was very little lacing, there was a thin layer of dark sediment on the bottom of the bottle, this ale had aromas of light roasted malt, caramel and some nut, there was a little malt and bread like sweetness, the flavors were light roasted malt, nut, some caramel and caramel sweetness, the flavors pretty much follow the aromas, there was some bitterness at the finish and left the palate a little dry, a nice drink

Very bland aroma and taste. Sweet carmel malt was main flavor. Clear amber color, as expected.

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Medium amber brew with a thin head. Pleasant aroma dominated by caramel malts. Sweet caramel malt dominates the start of the swallow with the finish transitioning to a burnt/roasted malt and modest hoppiness that adds dryness to the finish. Good!

12 oz bottle: Aroma is big on malt, smokiness, yeast, hay, roasty, caramel, and a little bit of chocolate. Hops are subdued but discernible lightly in the aroma. Appearance is a cloudy reddish/brown with a medium to low white head that lingers. Taste is malt, chocolate, lightly metallic, roast, caramel, and a slight woodsy characteristic. Palate is lightly carbonated mouthfeel, and an light malt aftertaste that is slightly dry. Overall, It’s average to say the least. Cheers!

Not much of a red. Has a strange acidity that I liken to that of apple juice (as in, the mouthfeel is almost "juicy" without being fruity). That said, not a very sweet red (which I like), but at the same time, very weak like many of the other beers out of Frankenmuth. Essentially zero head, so light that I thought it was a pilsner, etc. That being said, the beer pairs well with savory/salty foods, which bring out more of the latent charred malt bite of the beer. Definitely not a stand-alone beer.
