3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Gravity dispense at GBBF ’13, 15/08/13.
Clear dark amber with a thin off white head that clears edgeward.
Nose is caramel, hops, tropical fruit notes, orange rind, notes of booze, light grapefruit.
Taste comprises sweet candied fruits, orange, hop presence, booze, pine resin.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in a boozey finish.
Hopped up take on a barley wine, doesn’t really work for me, lacks depth and the booze sticks out a little too much. Still drinkable stuff but nothing I’d turn to if I wanted a decent barley wine on a winters evening.
