3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beerlando (3324) - Orlando, USA - NOV 18, 2007
Growler, courtesy hopscotch. Pours a hazy, burnt orange-amber color. A small layer of large, clear bubbles is all that shows for a head. Minimal ribbon lacing noted. The aroma is like a malty IPA all the way. Caramel and toffee blend well with grassy and citrus hops on the nose. The same can be said for the flavor, which is sufficiently rich and sweet from the caramel while showing ample citrus hop bitterness. Excellent balance. Medium-full bodied and smooth. I really liked this one. Solid beer.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 22, 2011
On tap at Franklins, Hyattsville on 14 July 2006. Not that much more to this than the APAs to be honest. The malt in the aroma is a bit sweaty and clammy but the hops are good again.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 17, 2010
Sampled as the ale, although I have had the lager a few times at MASHOUT I think. Tap at Franklins- Pours a deep amber red mostly clear, with a tacky sticky head. Aroma is hoppy, sappy pine resin slight pink , coldsmokey- chinook and pine tar sharp crystal malts as well. Flavor is sharp toffee and big caramel malts under lots of green minty piney resinous hops- lots of chinook citrus, pine and harsh bitterness- yet is still really drinkable- similar to Arrogant Bastard - a bit more hoppy and more fresh here though. Nice.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SoLan (1550) - Florida, USA - JAN 16, 2010
From notes. Clear amber, off white carbonation. Mild aroma of toast, biscuit, caramel, cookie malt and bitter, earthy, piney, resinous hops. Flavor is similar and more impactful, mildly astringent in the finish. Medium/full body, carbonation is moderate yet a little biting. Okay.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 yobdoog (1885) - Woodridge NY, New York, USA - AUG 31, 2009
Sampled June 28th. This version is cloudy dark reddish brown. Aroma is sweet and really nice. Caramel and some hops. Flavor is juicy sweet and hoppy. a bit of a lingering hops finish but not bad.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 l1br4r14n (451) - Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA - JUL 10, 2009
Draft at brewpub. What can I say... aroma is dry, hoppy and bitter. Flavor is more of the same. The body is nice and medium, but really not much going on with this beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 nimbleprop (2235) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAY 2, 2009
Sampled on tap at the brewpub. This is a really hard beer to rate because they intentionally change the recipe every time. I actually like that concept though. This version was 7% abv and poured a hazy, orange with a whispy white head. Aroma is hoppy, grapefruit, pine, leoms, with a touch of grain. Flavor was mostly hops, more lemons, pine and grapefruit with also some crisp malts, crackers too. Bitter finish. Sessionable.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bb (4887) - Alamo, California, USA - MAY 2, 2009
Draft. Amber beer with an off-white head. Grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit, pine, and a nice resiny flavor. Good bitterness. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and pine resin lingers.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ben4321 (2227) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAR 10, 2009
Overall Impression:
I haven’t made a trip to Franklin’s in years, and I’m only about 20 minutes away, but back in the ’04-’05 range I tried a few different batches of this beer, and it usually ranged in the mid-3s, so I’ll give it the generic 3.5 for arguments sake...
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 DocHop (278) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 9, 2009
Pours a darker honey with a foamy off-white head. Slightly sweet and citrusy aroma of Cascade hops. Very hop heavy flavor. You can feel the hop oils in your mouth. Lends to a creamy, mild malt base. Very smooth and only slightly bitter.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Vas19 (313) - Maryland, USA - JAN 30, 2009
Anarchy ale on tap. Pours amber brown with off white head. Great Cascade hop aroma. Flavor is a lot of hops but remains balanced. Good fruit flavors. nice bitterness but not over the top. Hop heads would enjoy.
