On tap at Franklins 2/13/10: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a well-lacing smallish froth of off-white head. Has a sweet dark caramely nose with a good amount of resiny piny hops. Starts with a good malty fullness and fresh grapefruity hop flavor with some mild warmth before a bittersweet finish. A pretty true to style and assertive hoppy strong ale.

Pours a medium copper color with an off-white head and a bit of lacing. The nose carries a bit of floral hops and pine plus light caramel malt in the background. Not particularly hoppy, and some malt in the background. Flavor has a moderate hop presence. Medium body and a dry, bitter finish. Well played, but not quite up to snuff.

On tap. Came to the table a deep amber/red color with a thick khaki head. A rich aroma of resiny pine and grapefruits. Medium to full-bodied. The flavor starts with some touches of toasty caramel and a crisp biscuitiness. The finish is full of drying citrus. A nice spiciness throughout. Props to the new brewmaster. He’s definitely off to a good start. Can’t wait to see what he has in store.
