750ml bottle from the General Store. Poured a pitch black color, like oil, with a thick rich dark brown head. Aroma is heavy on the roasted malts, chocolate notes, a touch of earthy hops. Flavor is coffee roast, with chocolate, roasted malts. Pretty enjoyable - alcohol is pretty well masked. A tad sweet, but still very enjoyable.

On tap at Franklin’s. Pours near-black with a tan head and some slight lacing. The nose carries a heavy amount of roast with a light bit of chocolate and other stout notes. Oh yeah, stout notes. The flavor is taken over by the roast and finishes too dry. Medium-full body. Pretty good, but nothing over-the-top.

On tap. Pours an oily black with a thin, tan head. Nice roasty aroma, toasted bread, coffee grounds, molasses, nice dark fruit notes too. Not over powering. Flavor is molasses, cherry cola, coffee, vanilla, a little soy, some wood, dark toast. Full bodied, dry finish. Lots of sweetness, a fair amount of alcohol, but the roasted flavors really tie it all together.

Draft on 02/11/11. Served in a little goblet. Arrived at the table a solid black color with a smallish light-brown head. A strong aroma of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla extract, plums, raisins, molasses, soy sauce, and some grapefruits in the background. Medium to full-bodied. The flavor started with some sweet caramel, raisins, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, and some vanilla extract. A bitter and drying finish with a decent amount of grapefruity hoppiness. A mild amount of warming alcohol was present throughout. Very drinkable for the style.

(I didn’t get a chance to write down the description, but it didn’t match that of the St. Charles Imperial Stout) Pours an oily opaque with a creamy froth of dark tan head. Has a rich, sweet, dark caramel and chocolate nose with a touch of dark fruits and lightly piny hops. Starts with good chewy fullness and sweet dark maltiness with some raisin and plum complexity with mild metallic (perhaps hard water?) character that I’ve tasted in their beers before. Finishes smooth and bittersweet with some lingering roasted coffee and chocolate.
