On draught at brewery: Light brown body (seems a bit light to me for a porter) that is hazy but allows light to filter through. A small beige head sits atop the body which has nice retention. The aroma is sweet grains, sugar, chocolate, caramel, light coffee, but it does smell like it’s lacking a bit in the darker malt department. Taste is dry cocoa, sweet grains, much less roast than I expected, and just seems a bit light on the darker malts for a porter. The body is light, a bit too light for this one, with medium carbonation and finishes sweet with hints of caramel.

Nitro. Brown body with creamy tan nitro head. The aroma is suppressed by the nitro, but bits of roast and chocolate make it through. The flavor is woody, very roasty, some caramel and chocolate and relatively dry. Medium/light body would probably be ideal for a porter if not on nitro, but I’m just guessing. Nonetheless, the nitro wasn’t too damaging to this one.

Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a frothy, spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of roasty malts, some coffee and dark chocolate with a touch of caramely sweetness. Body starts a little thin for the style, but has nice earthy roasty flavor and a lingering mocha finish. A pretty nice porter.

brew pub: yeah! the dark beers. This was a solid porter. A very good flavor but not as rich as I like. A nice almost black color and a nice malt aroma were almost better then the beer’s flavor

Black body wtih off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, roast, some coffee, faint cherry. Taste is moderately sweet, chococoffee, roast, some earthy/grapefruit. Medium body, creamy for the most part with a bit of acidity at the start of the swallow. A bit hoppy for the style but the malts still dominate this brew.

Noll Porter pours to a deep brown to ebony color with a slight tan head that fades, and a soft carbonation. The nose is just jam packed with dark malt character. Aromas of dark chocolate, caramel, and mild notes of roasted coffee flood the nose. The palate is soft and full on the tongue with lots of big chocolate malt character. Flavors of milk and dark chocolates, and caramel coat the tongue. Noll Porter finishes with more chocolate and dark malty flavor, then ends with just a slight hint of roast and hop bitterness to balance this beer out to perfection. This is a wonderful version of brown porter that had tremendous chocolatey aromas and flavors. It was a stark contrast to their General Stout which was a roasty and bone dry version of Irish stout. I thought it was a great thing that Franklin’s had both a porter and a stout in the line up. This beer would make the perfect desert beer to match with any rich and creamy desert on Franklin’s menu.

Sparkling brownish crimson, thick creamy khaki head. Aroma was a nice Englishy mocha, oatmeal, chocolate, and coffee combo. Flavor was a nice blend of all the above, malty, light cherry to boot, with only very light bittering in the end. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth, light mocha finish. OK brew, but nothing special...
