Pours a transparent copper bronze with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma has a nice, mild English hoppiness and some toasty, grainy notes. Starts fairly full with some mild soapiness and bittersweetness toward the finish. A decent British-styled IPA.

I had a 4oz sample of this beer at the 2012 Frederick Beer Festival. The beer had a mostly-clear, light gold-amber color with an average-sized, foamy white head with great retention, and good cling and lacing. The aroma featured some citrus hops with a touch of pine, and also a bit of caramel malt and barley. The beer had a light and crisp citrus taste and bitterness with a touch of pine and a lighter, sweet malty caramel effect. Its body was a bit dry and a touch think with a light mouthfeel and average carbonation.

On tap at Franklin’s. Pours an orange-amber color with an off-white head and a bit of lacing. The nose carries through some citrus and orange peel plus a bit of malt. The flavor is slightly-malty with some nice citrus hop character Medium body and a slight bitterness. Pretty good.

In the top 3 of 10 beers on offer. Draft. Hazy golden color. Aroma of citrus and grass. Taste is bread, pine, flowers, citrus. That just about covers it!

Draft at Franklin’s. Solid IPA, assertive hops, good color, expected bitterness and finish. I would try again.

Aroma is heavy malt (straw, biscuit, caramel, toast), heavy hops (floral, citrus, pine), and average-heavy esters (apple/pear) with notes of peach and pineapple. Flavor is heavy malt (straw, biscuit, caramel, toast), heavy hops (floral, citrus, pine), and average-heavy esters (apple/pear) with notes of peach and pineapple. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation with a dry finish.

On cask at Franklins, Hyattsville on 14 July 2006. Hazy orange colour - a bit murky. Some aromatic hops on the nose but not very vibrant. Sharp apple flavour. A little sour / acetic. You can tell there’s a decent beer lurking here but I’m afraid the cask condition was not too good. Seemed past it to me.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy dark yellow color with a medium frothy offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of leafy, citrus hops. The taste is very bitter resiny hops, faint malts and a dusty note. Medium bodied. Overhopped with a lingering bitterness. Way off balance.

Overall Impression: Frankins makes an alright IPA. Nothing special, but a decent example of the style.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2010 Gravity pour from firkin. Color is orange-brown with soapy white head. Aroma is hops with some citrus and malt. The flavor is mostly a sweet malt with citrus hops, and a kind of tart/bitter finish. I’m not a fan of IPAs, but this is one I can enjoy. Re-rate 4/18/10 - Much milder than I remember with a soapy flavor. Eh.
