4 fl oz. sample at the brewery. Dark red amber in the glass. Malty and fresh hopy at the nose. Tastes dark malty with hop at the start. Gets more bitter and hopy in a malty bedding. Sweet sour background and malt, malt, malt.

Clear, dark-amber red with an off-white head and excellent lacing.
Aroma of caramel, white bread, sourdough bread, butter, light pine and mild lemon.
Taste of toffee, butter, white bread and sourdough bread.
Medium/light body and low/medium carbonization.

Bottle from the brewer: Pours a clear copper with a thin white head, aroma has light malts and grassy hops, light bodied, mellow carbonation, starts and ends lightly bitter with a clean aftertaste. A fine brew from an exceptional brewer.

On tap at Franklin’s.
Pours a moderate amber color with a bit of an off-white head. The nose brings a bit of amber malt along with quite a bit of buttery diacetyl. The flavor has even more buttery diacetyl. Quite off-putting. Medium body with a creamy, buttery finish. Just way overtaken by diacetyl. Quite unfortunate.

Draft at brewery in a sampler. Amber to copper color, clear, very light head. Aroma is a mild malt, but the taste is really off - somewhat astringent, just didn’t seem right (may have been an off batch).

Tap. Pours clear tawny/amber with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is average malt (toast, caramel, nutty), average hops (herbal, woody), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of oak, leaves, and kettle caramelization. Flavor is average malt (toast, caramel, nutty), average hops (herbal, woody), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of oak, leaves, and kettle caramelization. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth and a dry finish.

On tap at Franklins, Hyattsville on 14 July 2006. Hazy copper colour. Subtle caramel malt accents. A touch sweet. Some resinous hops come through later. Not too bad but not particularly inspiring.

Sampler at brewpub. Pours hazy amber with light tan head. Aromas of toasted malts, toffee, and light hops. Flavors of sweet toasted malts, toffee, light hops, and very light vanilla. Mouthfeel is decent. Finishes sweet.
