Draft at brewery. Very good american pale. Aggressive hop aroma and taste make this interesting but it is not overly strong to be like an IPA. One of my favorites at Franklin’s.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 22, 2011
On tap at Franklins, Hyattsville on 14 July 2006 (noted at 6.0%). Unusual to find two different APAs on tap at a brewpub at the same time. Hazy amber colour. Good strong hop presence. Big on grapefruity Cascade. Another good APA. The hops are a bit more aggressive than in the Twisted Turtle but there is less of a malt backbone. Honours even.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Drake (5231) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - FEB 10, 2011
Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy copper color with a large creamy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Faint aroma of citrus hops. The taste is wretched. Big herbal and citrus hops. Way over-hopped. A chemical note. No balance whatsoever. Medium bodied. Looks decent, but other than that I could barely manage a few sips.

Sampler at brewpub. Pours clear light copper with off-white head. Aromas of citrusy american hops, caramel, and english malts. Flavors of hops, some citrus, caramel, and english malts. Nice mouthfeel and carbonation. Decent pale and one of the better beers on tap.

Tap at Franklins. Pours a hazy light copper with a thin head. Aroma is citrus grassy leafy cascade, lean toffee and light caramel malts. Flavor is nicely hopped resinous, pine, citrus and orange notes, cascade is big, almost piney sappy spicy centennial as well. Clean and crisp good APA.

Gravity pour from the friday firkin. Cloudy orange with a pillowy white head. Huge aroma of hops and grapefruit. Flavor is mostly grapefruit and citrus hops. Much like drinking grapefruit juice, only not as bitter. Very smooth with a nice pale malt backbone. Quite drinkable.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - MAR 6, 2009
Draught at the brewery. Gold-amber with light have. Hoppy cascade aroma with light malt. Light malt flavor supporting a firm piney and citrus hop flavor. Plenty bitter with a lasting finish. Takes the SN model and turns the hops up a notch. Tasty stuff. A good, hoppy pale ale on tap at the source is always a good call.
