50cl bottle poured into a mug. Looks like root beer. Smells like root beer. Tastes like watered down root beer. Slight alcohol detectable. High carbonation. Not horrible for what it is.

Dark brown colour, frothy top. A strong medicinal aroma and a hint of a malty beer background, a cross between a brewery and a surgery! The taste follows, with herby medicinal flavours and a slight alcohol, beer-like taste in the background. Was on special offer at Tesco, Fakenham, Norfolk so thought i’d give it a go.

Bottle. I used to love root beer as a kid, but it’s actually quite hard to get hold of in the UK for a decent root beer. I was intrigued to see this on the shelf and figured it needed at least a trial. Pours a deep russet brown with a head of fizz which soon disappears leaving it looking flat. It’s not flat at all, and there’s real "pop" carbonation throughout it. There’s that unique root beer smell to it, kind of medicine/medical with saspirilla, cola cubes, anaesthetic smells. Crazy amount of sweetness in the mouth, licorice, more dandilion and burdock tastes. I really want to hate this, but I can’t... it’s root beer! Not a great beer, but quite a decent alcopop.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2011 Behaves and looks better than beer: mahogany with a thick, stable tan head. Intense, dental aroma. Love root beer so I don’t mind this; violently sweet but the root beer/burdock/liquorice flavour is irresistible. Category A alcopop filth, best sampled under anaesthetic with a dazzling white light shone in your face. And then drooled into a plastic funnel.

bottle, i cant seriously rate this "beer" but try it. very aromatic like doctors cure. "Baton" aroma, minimal head, clear, brown, lightly bitter, medium sweetness, and again "baton" we callet that flavour, i dont like it so much..i could be root flavour as wellmedium body, thick feel, average carbonation, long rootfinish, not a regular beer, not bad alcoholic lemonade

Having grown up with Root Beer in Canada I have to say this beer surprised me. I love every aspect of it. It doesn’t have the creamy taste you usually get with the higher grade soda style root beers, but it’s still well rounded and a little taste of home I can take on a night out! Thanks Frank’s!

Obviously not everyones taste. Not to be confused with BEER. On an even playing field with the likes of alchoholic ginger beer. Being a fan of root beer, this is a welcome addition to the market without paying the extortionate prices for non alchoholic root beer imported from America. The only thing missing (from memories of the old soda fountains and A&W drive in restaurants) is the frosty mug and a generous dollop of vanilla ice cream floated on top. Root Beer Float anyone?

An excuse to market an alcopop at £3+ a bottle no doubt. Cheap and sticky and though it would be alright as a soft drink with plenty of ice to dilute the cloying taste, it’s essentially an alcopop. Sasparilla, aniseed, cola.
