White Hart, Machen, Wales. Drive into the wilds of Wales to find this well hidden brewpub, only to discover they have none of their own beers on. The barmaid is very surprised that anyone has turned up in the early afternoon of a Monday, and is confused about which beers she has on - pointing to each pump in turn when asked if any of the brewery's own beers are available. "Yes, this one," pointing to a Wolf. No, that's made in Norfolk. "Ah, this one!" No, that's a Cottage (big groan!). "Sorry love - it's this one yere!" Pointing to the Bagby. O well. The pub is great though - s shabby looking building in a bit of wasteland behind a railway, but when you enter it's like the interior of the Titanic. Wierd! The beer is an amber bitter with good balance of sweet caramel and earthy hops - very fresh and fragrant. Very tasty.

2pt carton from The Merchant. Pours dirty amber with a nostrilful of eggy banana hops in the afternose. You know exactly what I’m talking about. A happy faceful of sulphurous biscuits. Digestives, as it goes. Flat, tepid, bitter and creamy. Beer Of The Evening, hands down.

Cask, Peterborough Fest 05. Deep gold with no head. Aromas are smooth biscuit malts with dry hops. Flavours are fruity and dry with hints of pear, especially. Dry, fruity, hoppy - standard and decent.
